Many of you know this, but some of you don’t–I’ve got this great group of Moms that I met online when I was in the first trimester of pregnancy back in 2005. Since the nearly three years (OMG, three years??!) that we’ve been interacting on a daily basis, I’ve come to know, like, and respect these women, and appreciate the diverse backgrounds that they offer.
I’ve gone as far as flying all the way across the Unites States for a meet-up…as well as many meet-ups practically in my backyard. I’m happy to report that I’ve met a total of nine of them, from California, to Colorado, to Pennsylvania. It’s really quite cool, actually 🙂
Today Kwabena and I met up with Angie, from Philly and her daugther, Gem (this was actually meet-up #5 for us, if you can believe it!), and we also met up with Molly and her daughter, Adeline, from Colorado, who are in the area for a work conference. I previously met Molly in February of 2007 when our babes were just 7 months old, in one of my outrageous flights across the United States to meet up with other moms from our group. LOL
This morning we met up in Rockville, with plans to go to the National Zoo. Unfortunately, the weather forecast called for showers starting at 11:00 a.m. and leading into the afternoon. Great. No back-up plans, and no idea of other indoor activities where three active toddlers could go crazy. But we decided to wing it, and we hopped on the metro to the Smithsonian/Mall.
Luckily the rain was held at bay for awhile in order to see our kids enjoy a merry-go-round on the Mall (what a rip-off to charge accompanying parents $2.50 for a three-minute ride! Grrr……). Kwabena and Gem were a little sketchy about it, but Adeline totally enjoyed herself!
Just when we thought we’d beaten the rain…we got soggy and damp while walking to the metro station. Luckily, our kids weren’t complaining, and thankfully Kwabi was knocked out the entire walk, as well as the whole time on the train, waking moments after we left our friends and got into the car. What a nap!
Overall, we had a fun day! Really, the whole weekend was awesome.
Last night Kwasi and I had a date night while Kwabi stayed with Grandma and we went into D.C. to check out a play called Intimate Apparel, starring a friend of his. What a great play! Seeing the play reminded me of how close we are to a wealth of culture and activities in this metropolitan area; why don’t we take advantage of this more often??
Anyhow, a fun-filled weekend, packed full of exciting and novel activities!
I can’t wait to see what the rest of the spring and summer has to offer up for activities 🙂
Here are a few pics of our day on the Mall!

Kwabena and Gem hanging out in front of the Washington Monument.

Intentionally falling on the ground and looking too cute. He had a blast!

“Adeline, over there!”

Got caught in the rain! Looking very WET! Angie is on the left and Molly is in the middle. Yep, that’ s me on the right 🙂

Am I the only Mom that let’s her child dip cracker sticks into chocolate, especially when riding in the car?? This is what I saw when I turned around. LOL
