A Run Down

December 22, 2012 By Serena Leave a Comment

It’s nearly 1 a.m. and I’m still up. Didn’t I start a Healthy Sleep Initiative for myself? That’s this made-up initiative that I started this week in an attempt to MAKE myself go to bed by a bedtime. Supposed to be 11:30 p.m. during the week, but apparently I forgot to set the bedtime for the weekend. Thus, it’s now 12: 45 a.m. and I’m up cleaning out my Inbox. LOL. Oh well, here’s a quick little rundown of what’s been going on with us. I hate doing the run-downs so quickly, because there are some nuances that I’m just not going to capture in this type of post. But, this is the best I can do:

1. Back on December first, Ohene got his first set of stitches in his left ear! He was climbing on the chair and tried to jump onto the un-sturdy red little table and split his earlobe open. I was getting ready to leave for my work Xmas party. Oh well– off to Patient First for a traumatic event of getting stitches! My poor baby yelled and screamed, “Somebody help meeee!” lol. (The things that come out of kids’ mouths!). He also yelled “I gotta pee! Pee is coming out!” and “I want to go somewhere! I want to go home!” I guess anything to get out of getting stitches! Four stitches later, he’s healed, although his ear will never heal as if it never happened; a small piece of flap is still there:

2. We had a big party here in celebration of Kojo’s, Kwasi’s, and Kwasi’s mom’s birthdays (which are all in the same week). Was fun! I realize now that I didn’t get any pics of Kwabena and Ohene! 🙁 They were so busy playing video games… Grrr….

3. I went to Hawaii! I really need to document my trip, but shit– I don’t have enough time and energy to do that. Let’s just say it as good, but expensive. I charged something things that I wish I hadn’t, and now I will be digging out for a while. But overall, great trip, and was nice helping to celebrate my friend, Kristen’s, 40th birthday! I met a lot of great people there, and it was nice making new friends.

4. There was a terrible school shooting on December 14, in Newtown, CT, and 20 beautiful little children, and 6 adults, were killed 🙁 Some asshole went into a school and started shooting; most of them 6 and 7 year olds. Broke my heart thinking about it, and how close to home it hit because Kwabena is 6. But even without kids, people feel its tragedy. I went to Kwabena’s school today for gingerbread house building, and just seeing how easy it is to get buzzed into the school, made me really see how un-secure our schools really are, and that at any moment, some madman could open fire. God…I can only hope that my children, and every other person’s child, will be safe. 🙁

5.  Ohene is sooo hilarious! And I always tell him to be a performer when he grows up, because he’s so dramatic! He told me yesterday he wants a girlfriend, and wants me to buy him one. I asked what he would do with a girlfriend, and he said, hug her, and kiss her, and then kick her. HUH!? LOL. He said he wants a “robot girlfriend,” whatever THAT means! That kid is a trip…He thinks he’s a bad-ass, but he’s a softee inside 🙂

6. Kojo is amazingly cute! He’s trying to say words. He says his name “Dodo.” LOL. I love the feel of his little body in my arms. He’s my last child, and so I have to cherish these beautiful little things, like his small face, and cute lips, and baby feet. Because he will only continue to grow into a little man 🙂

7. Blogging is going well. I’m going to BlogHer ’13, and I hope that this will be a prosperous year for me with my blogging! I love it, and am ready to make $$$ doing it (I’ve gotten a whopping $86 so far from Google Adsense, but I must have $100 before I am sent a check! Jeez….)

8. Christmas is right around the corner and I don’t know if I will be going to Hagerstown or not. Probably so. We never go, so it might be fun for a change. We shall see. Yet another year I won’t be having gifts! Just no money for it.

9. Time to set New Year Resolutions. I’m totally on it this year. I don’t think I did much last year in terms of resolutions. I have been really into eating healthy since I’ve come back from Hawaii, and I’ve been trying to do a major overhaul of my life lately–in terms of getting enough sleep….eating right….budgeting….and setting some routines and schedules around the house. It’s a work in progress…. More on that later.
Okay, night!
