December 11, 2006 – Another Tough Day at Daycare

December 22, 2006 By Serena Leave a Comment

Poor Kwabena…Mondays are always tough for him.

His daycare provider says that he can drive her crazy on Mondays, while I wonder, “Is that really my perfect angel child she’s talking about???” Doesn’t seem possible! At home, I rarely get a fuss out of him. I can leave the room to grab something, and he doesn’t fuss. I can let him play for a little on his own, and he doesn’t fuss. He even lets me do 50-minute workout videos on Saturday morning, and he doesn’t fuss! So, to imagine him being the super-fussy baby, just doesn’t seem likely. But I guess it’s just because he misses Mommy.

On the weekends, we spend a lot of time together. We play together, nap together, talk with each other, cuddle, laugh, smile….all the things that bond us as Mother and Son. And I believe that when the weekend ends, he’s sad to see Mommy leave him to go to work. Thankfully, the rest of the week he is usually that perfect angel child that he is at home.

My daycare provider (and my mother-in-law, too, I think….) thinks Kwabena is a tab bit spoiled, but I have to disagree. He’s simply loved, and well-attended to. 🙂

Today I sent some cereal to daycare (finally). He doesn’t care for the Gerber brand, so I picked up some Earth’s Best organic brand, and according to the daycare provider, he ate 2 Tbsp. at lunch, and liked it. Yay! I guess we’re consistently going to do solids.I’ve decided that on the weekends is when I will introduce new foods. That will be my way of being able to enjoy the experience, while during the week, he will eat foods that he has already been introduced to. Since he’s new to eating, we have to follow the “4-7 day wait” rule, which means that when you introduce a new food, you should give it 4-7 days before introducing a new food, in case of allergic reactions. I think the weekend is the perfect time to introduce new foods. This coming weekend I will introduce pureed bananas!

Last night Kwabena slept so well, even though he’s got a slight cold! He fell asleep while breastfeeding at 6:45 p.m. and slept until 2:30 a.m. Of course, being the concerned Mommy, I got up several times to check him, especially because he rolled onto his tummy, a big “no no.” But who can restrain an infant with newfound manuevering abilities? 🙂 He also rolled onto his tummy tonight, too. I’ll have to keep a watchful eye…. Oh, and diaper changes….I remember the day when they were quick and easy, and now I’ve got a baby who wants to turn over constantly! Imagine trying to diaper a child who wants to roll away from you! Quite the experience! Keeps me laughing! My birthday is on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, and I will be turning 29. Kwasi asked me what I wanted, and I told him that he already gave me my gift on July 5, 2006, Kwabena’s birthday :). (Oh, but um….yeah….a nice piece of jewelry, or something thoughtful like that, would be nice, too). (wink wink)
