My, my….these last (almost) 6 weeks of maternity leave have seriously flown by. I honestly don’t know where they’ve gone. I only have 5 weeks left, I believe. I am scheduled to go back to work February 6th (or, unless I get a new job, which could very well happen, but we’ll see come shortly after the New Year…..). I’m sad to think of leaving home to go back to work, but financially, I know it’s the best decision. It’s been sooo relaxing staying home each day, knowing that I don’t have to get up to rush, rush, rush out of the house, to go spend 8+ hours doing nothing good with my time (my job isn’t rewarding in a career-sense), to come home and have to rush, rush, rush to fit in time with the kids, prepare food, clean up, and just basically get it all in within a short period of time.
What the routine consists of now (well, aside from the fact that it’s Christmas break for the kids) is: wake up around 6 or 6:30 a.m…..feed Kojo (who sleeps with us…awwww….)…..Kwasi prepares breakfast usually……I get up and pack lunch for the kids……send them off…..spend all day with Kojo, either feeding or holding him, or maybe getting a little time to work on my crafting stuff (more on that in a moment)……and then Kwabena’s bus come home around 3:15 p.m.
It’s nice that Kwasi works from home, because we enjoy having lunch together, watching a little Law & Order: SVU. 🙂 The day goes soooo fast, though. With Kojo being so small, he does nap a lot, but he also naps a lot if you HOLD him, which means, there’s not a lot of free time to get much else done in the way of the projects that I am most interested in– getting my crafting room together, finishing the half-bathroom projects, sanding furniture, cleaning, etc. So, I tend to just go with the flow, and whatever I can get done, great. Whatever I can’t, so be it!
Kojo is getting so big! He went recently for his 1-month check-up and he was 10 lbs. 7 oz, in case I didn’t mention it before (my blogging has REALLY fell off since maternity leave!!). He was also 22.75″ long! Wow, he’s grown nearly 3″ in a month! I can tell how he’s filled out, and how he doesn’t quite fit so easily in my arm when nursing!
At his appointment, the dr. noted that he looked a little wall-eyed (one going out the other way), which of course, worried me so much for a day or so. But, I really haven’t noticed it too much. And even though the dr. said it probably is okay and that to just note it during his month 2 appointment if I noticed anything unusual, I still worried. But, I’ve let it go for the most part. I’m sure he will be fine, even if he requires some sort of treatment!
He’s such a good baby, too! He doesn’t even cry over the things that most babies would cry about! For example, when I put saline drops in his nose (he’s forever gunky-sounding, which I hope isn’t because of anything suspicious in our home environment; I suspect it’s left over mucus from the cold he had shortly after came home). He doesn’t cry over the saline, nor does he cry when I put the suction bulb in his nose (unless I put it too far back, but otherwise, he doesn’t complain!). He doesn’t complain when I wipe him with cold wipes, change his clothes, or do anything else that would normally irritate a baby. He’s so mild-mannered! We shall see if this will be the same temperament he has as he grows up. Kwabena’s DEFINITELY was (i.e. active!).
As for the rest of the family, we are all doing well! I really wish I would write more often, because I feel like I’m losing precious moments of Ohene’s childhood (Lord knows my memory won’t serve me well unless I take detailed notes and pictures!!). And I feel like Kwabena is growing up so fast, as well.
(I started this post HOURS ago, but wasn’t able to finish. I just got side-tracked by looking up xBOX 360 Kinect games for the kids! Yep, we traded in some Amex points–10 years worth!!–and got the kids an xBOX, which uses a sensor to detect your body movements and doesn’t require and controls. Kwabena LOVES it! Now I’m online looking at games. LOL. I promise to come back more often and keep better track of what’s going on with our family!)
‘Night!
