It’s hard to believe that I only have 3 weeks of maternity leave left. How sad 🙁 And as I was commenting on my other blog, how sad that I assumed I would be able to use this time to get things done. Stupid of me, really, because I should be focusing on spoiling this little guy with love and affection! Not that I don’t, because I do. I hold him more than other people would probably recommend (which was the same with Kwabena and Ohene–people saying I spoil my kids). But in addition to holding him, I have a list 10 miles long of all the things I had hoped to get done while on maternity leave. In a nutshell, this is what I was planning to get done:
1. Paint everything
2. Sand everything
Hasn’t happened!!
In fact, it’s a little overwhelming the amount of things I have on my “To Do” list. I am realizing that I am setting myself up for a sense of failure trying to have so many things going on at one time.
One of my resolutions for this year is to be a Finisher. In other words, not just start projects (but I’m infamous for), but to actually COMPLETE them. I get so caught up in the excitement of a new project, but then get to parts I’m not that fond of (OMG, I HATE painting doors and trim, so I tend to leave them and the work neeevver gets done). Now, I’m making a concerted effort to finish what I start.
Oh….how I could list the things I need to finish (and start!!). But, considering that it’s nearly midnight and I really should pack it up soon, I guess I’ll leave that for another night.
Anyhow….on to other stuff.
We’re doing really good lately! I’m sorry I haven’t written much lately, because I feel like these weeks have slipped by and I have not accounted for them, and I feel like I will just lose my memories of this time. Kojo is changing so much! Just this week I took him to the dr. for his 2-month check-up, and the little guy is now weighing in at 13 bs on the nose! Remember, he was just 7 lbs, 5 oz at birth. Amazing! I compared his stats to Kwabena’s (since they were readily available), and it looks like Kojo’s fatter than Kwabena was at 2 months 🙂 Kwabena was 11 lbs 15 oz. I don’t remember what Ohene was, because I’d have to go back looking through these posts for Ohene’s stats. I’d be curious…..
So, since it’s getting late, let me just do a recap of everyone and everything. I’ll start with Kwasi:
KWASI
Not too much going on with him. He made a goal for the new year to lose 50 lbs by June. I don’t know if it will really happen, to be honest with you. He likes to snack 🙂 The good news is that he is walking (occasionally, but not enough to really lose the weight he needs to at this point). I think me being on maternity leave has influenced him, because he will ask me if I want to walk, and I say no most of the time. LOL. I should support him by going, but dammit if it’s not cold out sometimes (although, we’ve had a very mild winter so far; some days feel just like spring!!). I think once I am back to work, he will get back into his walks. Tomorrow is Martin Luther King Jr. day, and he said he is going to get up early to go walking.
KWABENA
He’s been doing well at school! He even got a Best Paw Forward award last week! That’s when they do something good, like showing leadership, or helping others without being asked. I think, from what he told me, is that he was trying to get a classmate to follow the rules or directions during gym, and the kid wasn’t listening. 🙂 I guess he was awarded for being a tattle-tale? LOL Whatever the reason, I am happy for him. He also came home with a little square piece of paper saying that he had super behavior. YAY! At home, however, he does okay, but still has his moments when he leaves you scratching your head, wondering if he’s 5 years old or 2 years old!! Things like not wanting onions in his taco veggie meat…….or someone takes something away and he slumps to the floor with a twisted look of “crying” on his face– crazy behavior for a big-ass 5-year-old! Most times, I try to ignore it.
He’s been doing really well with his reading and writing! I work with him each morning, for about 20 minutes or so, doing spelling words and some reading comprehension on some days. He’s really a smart boy. I wonder if I will be able to keep working with him once I start work again? I’m not sure what my schedule will be like, or if I will even be working at the Brain Injury Center anymore (more on that in a moment).
A couple cute things he’s said to me….some “Kwabi’isms”……
The other morning we were doing his school work and I told him to hurry up and sit back down (he was sharpening pencils). And he said to me, “Hold on; I’m gettin’ my sharpin’ on.” OMG! I about lost it, it was so unexpected and a total “oh-no-he-didn’t!” kind of statement. LOL
And then yesterday we went to Trader Joe’s together after we’d left Nana Ba’s house (Kwasi went with Ohene, who had ended up falling asleep). We were walking out and he had squirted some hand sanitizer on his hands, and he was like, “Ow, it burns…like hot fiya.” It’s so funny to hear him using this kind of language, because it really makes him seem like he’s not a little boy anymore!
OHENE
Ohene has become the little speaker! OMG! The things he says now! The other day we were driving along, just he and I, since I had picked him up the daycare, and I had the music going, and snapping and clapping, and said, “Come on, Henny! Get your party on!” And that little cutie butt, from the back seat, said in his exact, choppy sentences, “It’s-not-party-time!” OH MY GOD….talk about rolling on the floor laughing!! It was so funny, and too cute!!! I had to call Bee right away and tell her, that’s how hilarious it was. LOL
He says so many other things that it’s amazing to us. The other day he called Nana Ba “stupid” for whatever reason, and she said, “Well, then I guess I can’t give you the treat I was going to give you.” That little manipulator had the nerve to reach in and hug her! LOL HAHAHA
Well, baby crying!! More later!!
