Several weeks ago my sister asked me if I wanted to go on vacation with the family. At that time, Kwabena was only a couple weeks old, and since I was inexperienced, I couldn’t imagine taking a 5-week old on vacation to Ocean City, Maryland! However, as the days went by and I became more confortable in the “Mommy” role, I realized that taking a small vacation while on maternity leave would be the best option.
What a good boy Kwabena was on vacation! He slept a lot of the time, allowing us to go to restaurants, walk on the boardwalk, etc. He slept OK, although it seemed like he was tossing and turning a lot of the night in the bed next to me. Not sure if that was normal or not.
As a new parent, you worry about all the “Firsts”: first time breastfeeding in public…first diaper change without a changing table (not ALL public bathrooms have changing tables! I’ve had to change him on the seat at Burger King, as well as in my hot car)…first fussy pants at a restaurant…first long car trip…
As I experienced all these “Firsts” my confidence at Motherhood increased even more. There’s no place that I can’t take my son now! Trips to Target will be a piece of cake. 🙂
