Man…this potty stuff is pretty exciting, isn’t it? It’s really been such a gradual process for us. I know that if I were a stay-at-home-mom, potty training would have come quicker, because then it could be a daily reinforcement, except just on the weekends (and some evenings). On the weekends, I try to leave Kwabena diaper-less as much as possible, because he’s more aware of his bowels.
Today he was diaper-less for a good hour or so, and still no pee on the floor. I kept asking him, “Do you have to pee?” “Nooooo….” (knowing damn well it was coming soon, lol!)
Okay….But when I noticed him looking down at his pee-pee….and I saw a drop of “pre-pee” coming out, I quickly rushed him to his potty, and–viola!–he peed instantly!
And wouldn’t you know it that 30 minutes later, a certain little someone marched himself over to the potty and announced, “I sit down” and started peeing on his own?!
And to top it all off……..he later walked over to his potty and pooped and came back the hallway to announce, “Mommy, I pooped!”
Man……my boy is really learning, huh?
When he’s wearing a diaper, he’s much more likely to just use that instead of letting me know he’s got to use the potty, much less going TO the potty himself.
At daycare, Miss Marilyn (his daycare provider) has been telling him daily that soon he’s going to start using HER potty, as a way to prepare him for what is to come.
Perhaps once he starts getting consistent messages from home AND daycare, he will make even more progress.
Yay for Kwabena!
