29 Weeks!

September 6, 2011 By Serena Leave a Comment

So today I saw someone post this on Facebook– a blog about their friend’s pregnancy, and the layout contained all these important points that I just haven’t documented:

Pregnancy Highlights:

  • How Far Along
  • NAME!
  • Size of Baby
  • Total Weight Gain:
  • Maternity Clothes
  • Best Moment this week
  • Movement
  • Food Craving
  • What I Miss Most
  • Sleep
  • What I am looking forward to
  • Belly Button
  • Symptoms

These are the kinds of things I documented with Kwabena and Ohene, but I haven’t documented with this baby! At least I can say that I have documented things electronically, which will be harder to lose. Because, yeah, um, I still can’t find my baby books from my pregnacy with the kids! I’m sure they HAVE to be out in SOME box in the garage, but even though we haven’t unpacked EVERYTHING, it still doesn’t seem they could be hiding in anything left in the garage. SIGH……

Well, thank God I have this blog, and I have copied my ultrasound pics, so that I have SOMETHING!

Okay, so let’s go!

How Far Along – 29 weeks, already!! It’s really hard to believe, because next week, when I hit “30 weeks” it will hit me that this baby is right around the corner. OMG!

NAME! — Although we haven’t officially decided on a name, I believe we have settled on the name: KOJO MENSAH APPIAH. Although Kojo means “boy born on Monday” and he may not even be born on a Monday (and there’s not someone specifically we’re naming him after), I still feel like he’s a “Kojo.” The name seems to fit him. “Mensah” means “third born son” which is also very fitting, since he is the third born son.

Size of Baby — 15 inches, and 3 lbs, according to websites. But he might be a little bigger!

Total Weight Gain: Oh, my…..I started at 159….and as of recently, the scales been saying “200.” WTF!?!?! Some of it HAS to be water weight (please let it be!!!). When I take my shoes off, I see the indentations of shoe marks, with little pads of “water fat” on my feet. HAHAHA. Sounds gross, but is reassuring at least some of it could be water!!!

Maternity Clothes: Another “oh, my….” I have really run out of things to wear. I have 2 pairs of “dress pants” that I have been alternating as much as possible, with a couple skirts/dressers here and there. I went out this weekend to get a couple long-sleeve stetchey tops, in hopes of having those in the rotation as the weather cools (which I *think* it may start doing this week, but since it was so humid this weekend, who knows!). But yeah, the maternity clothes issue is dire. I can’t wait to start wearing my old, normal sexy jeans!!

Best Moment this week – Hmmm…considering that it was Labor Day weekend, the whole weekend was nice, really. The kids and I went to Kwasi’s cousin’s engagement party on Saturday. Kwabena had a good time running around with Maame Yaa’s 5-year old son, Nana Kofi. Ohene stayed glued to me like my shadow (hence the new nickname, “Shadow” LOL), and on Sunday we went to Uncle Sandy’s for a cook-out, which was nice, too. Yesterday, Labor Day, we spend the day cleaning up nearly the whole house, as well changing Kwabena’s bed from low to high (i.e. back to the “loft” bed he used to have at the condo, which I tend to like more, as well as he does, even though he said he couldn’t remember having it high, LOL).

Movement — Kojo’s become much more active, but really, in the grand scheme of things, he’s really NOT that active (compared to Kwabena!). Even with Ohene, I think he moves around the least, and it’s not hyperactive movements. It’s slow movements, just “chillin'” most of the time. LOL I absolutely love feeling him move! It’s so special when I have those movements where I can feel his body parts poking out, or when I press slightly and feel him in there. It’s so cool! I can’t wait to see him in a couple months!

Food Craving — Well, nothing THIS week, specifically, but my appetite today is RAVENOUS! I am constantly feeling hungry today. I’ve been craving sweets this whole pregnancy, really– MUCH more than Ohene’s pregnancy! Maybe not as much as Kwabena’s, but close! If I had to choose food cravings, in general, definitely Breyer’s All Natural ice cream!! Butter Pecan and Mint Chocolate Chip. YUUUMMMMM………

What I Miss Most – Oddly enough, I miss EXERCISE the most. Yes, I can go for walks and such, but I miss being able to run and sweat and be and feel trim and healthy. Right now, I can’t do those things, so I just say “to hell with it all!” and eat whatever I want. LOL Oh, and I do miss wearing my normal clothes, too….

Sleep — Has definitely gotten more dificult in the last weeks! Getting up out of bed has become tougher because I am more stiff when I wake up. Getting to sleep is easy. Staying asleep, for the most part, is easy, too. I am dreaming more weird dreams, about celebrities in the middle of warfare…..and swimming to the carneval with the kids….weird stuff. The good thing is that since Kwasi and Kwabena have been back from Ghana, I have slacked off with the home improvement stuff, and have started going to bed at normal times, and even allowing myself to fall asleep with Ohene.

What I am looking forward to — Holding my little guy!!! I can’t wait to see if I am right– that I think he’s going to look like a combination of Kwabena and Ohene. From the last ultrasound pictures, looks like he will have Kwabena’s forehead and bridge of nose, but he will actually have my nose. I can’t tell whose lips he will have, though, although I don’t think they will be as full as Kwabena’s. As for skin color, I can only wonder! What about hair texture! And eyes! Will he have the light brown, amber colored eyes like me and Kwabena (I actually think Kwabena’s eyes are lighter than mine), or will have have the dark chocolate eyes like Ohene? I can’t wait to find out!

Now that I think about it, after going below and writing about what I am NOT looking forward to (L&D), I can say that I AM looking forward to those moments and hours after, when you’ve got this beautiful newborn in your arms, and you are holding him and kissing him, and when you are so proud for your family to come and visit and see your new addition. I’m also looking forward to being home him on maternity leave. Right now, maternity leave is up in the air in regards to the amount of time I’ll be off (because of the contract issue going on at work). But, I plan to take 3 months off, and in that time, I will enjoy being home with him and just having that time to bond and relax!

What I am NOT looking forward to — This wasn’t part of the bullets above, but at the last minute I decided, well, if I am writing what I am most looking forward to, then I HAVE to say what I am LEAST looking foward to! That would be labor and delivery first and foremost. Having been through it twice before, and having done it natural, I know what to expect. I mean, Kwabena and Ohene’s L&Ds were the exact same, identical with the exception of the pushing and the tearing (or lackthereof with Ohene). But everything, down to the amount of time delivery, arrival to the hospital, etc., the exact same. They both even came on their due dates, in the same hour! (Kwabena at 1:53 a.m., and Ohene at 1:13 a.m., I believe!! Or was it 1:15 a.m.? Damn….I can’t remember without looking back!). Anyhow, the same. And that’s what I am going on for this L&D, as well. But who knows if that is true. And even if it is, to think of having to go through those contractions and totally relax your body and let the sensation take over, it’s not exactly something a mom looks FORWARD to, even if you rocked it the first and second time! So, this is probably the part I am most NOT looking forward to. But I’m sure it will be fine!

Body — The above bullet says “Belly Button” but honestly, who cares about my belly button? LOL I would rather comment on my ever-changing body as a whole, and–OMG–how much it’s changed! As I’ve said, I’ve gained a lot of weight so far, like 41 pounds according to the scaled. My thighs have become massive….when I sit cross-legged, the lumps of cottage cheese are so evident. LOL Even my upper arms have cottage cheese when I raise them and fat that is squeezed by the skin has nowhere to go. HAHAHA But, if I recall correctly, all three of my pregnancies, that has happened, so that’s nothing new! Oh, but the worst??? The way the lard on my back-fat rolls pushes together and makes it uncomfortable to walk upright. Frightful!! And let’s not forget the way my inner thighs rub together and get ITCHY and hot and sweaty when I wear skirts. HAHAHAHA. Ahhhhh…..the joys of pregnancy!

Symptoms — Each pregnancy, I get pains in my butt–my tailbone area, to be exact. To no avail, that’s what’s happened this time, as well. It usually starts around 12 weeks, and will last throughout pregnancy. Lying down is uncomfortable only when it is time to get up. I chuck it up to my hips relaxing and preparing to push out the baby 🙂

So there you have it!! I will try to do these updates once a week until delivery time!!!! 🙂

Only 74 days left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
