“A Big Monster Came Into My Room!”

February 6, 2009 By Serena Leave a Comment

So last night, according to Kwabena, and I’m absolutely sure he would never lie to me…..a big monster came into his room. Yep, that’s right. According to him, that is why he was awake in bed, crying for a whole hour before I finally had to go in there and coax him to sleep. When I first went to his room to quiet him, he wailed, “My toenail huuuurrtttts!” So being the good Mommy that I am, I went and got my nail clippers and dutifully clipped the hangnail on his big toe.

“He should be fine now…..” I thought hopefully to myself.

Oh, yeah? Not quite.

Another moan…scream…wail…And finally after a whole hour, I went to his room and firmly, then gently, told him he needed to close his eyes and go to sleep, already! He cried, “I close my eyes, Mooommmmyyyy!” Within 2 minutes, he was fast asleep.

This morning Kwasi and I asked him why he was crying last night, making all that noise. He ever-so-dramatically said, “A big monster came into my room!” (I couldn’t help but point out to him that the only big monster that came into his room was Daddy).

Kwabena then told me, “There was ghost-ez.” Vey cute the way he tried to make “ghost” plural. But then again, where did he learn “ghost”? LOL….must have been at daycare.

He continued, “There was ghost-ez. It make faces at me. It said ‘oooohhhhhh!'” (And where did he learn to moan like a ghost, too??)

This kid is really hilarious…..

And last night at dinner Kwasi had cooked some pasta that was super hot. When Kwasi makes dinner he ALWAYS makes it super hot. Not spicy–HOT…where your mouth is on fire and you immediately need water. (At least, that is my opinion, LOL).

I decided to try it with Kwabena. He ate a few bites, and then he spit out a bite and said, “That’s hot!” I told Kwabena that when something tastes hot, you just have to take sips of water. So I broght him a cup of cold water. He took a couple sips, and next thing we know–WHOOSH!–he poured the cup of water over his food!!!!

We asked him, “What are you doing?!” He said, “I making it cold.” And that is how Kwabena ate his water-logged pasta last night, along with his applesauce that he had wanted to mix with ketsup (um…yeah). I sat there, trying my best not to laugh my ass off.

But you know what?? It cooled the pasta off; washed off all the hot stuff! Now THAT…..is creativity. 😉
