Birthdays!

December 14, 2011 By Serena Leave a Comment

I just turned 34 yesterday! I think each year, each birthday becomes a little less special. Remember the days when birthdays were about going out to dinner, or out to party? For some people, that’s still the case. They make such a hub bub about their birthday, and expect everyone else to do so, as well. I’ve never made a huge deal out of my birthday. But it’s become even less important as the years go on.

Next year will not!! My friend Kristen, who lives over in WA state, has invited me, along with some of her other girlfriends, to attend her 40th birthday celebration in HAWAII next year! Her birthday is Dec. 7th. Since mine is Dec 13th, I can at least feel like I will be doing something to celebrate, even though I will probably not stay until the 13th. But still!! Hawaii!!

So my birthday this year fell short the excitement of a Hawaii celebration. In fact, it started off early early early with Ohene throwing up on Kwasi in the middle of the night as he carried him over to his own bed from our bed……..Then later it continued with Ohene (who’s just now getting over a stomach virus) waking up with shit covered all over him and his bed (lol), at which time Kwasi had to bathe him (which Ohene was NOT happy about!)……..to later Kwasi getting peed on by Kojo, followed by a shit-splosion by Kojo, at which time Kwasi had to bathe HIM, as well……..(Oh, and then to top it off, Kwasi fell down the stairs, sliding down on his ass, injuring his right arm; poor thing!).

So, not an EXCITING day, but eventful, yes!

My gift to myself was to get to leave the house and do whatever I wanted for about 2 hours. And you know me–I went thrift store shopping! 🙂 Unfortunately, I only found a couple pair of “in between” jeans (to get me through until I lose these last 30 lbs; I’ve already lost 22 so far), and I found a pair of cute size 7 leather boots that I am planning to sell (hopefully!), along with a Christmas sweater that I plan to sell, since I hear about Christmas sweaters selling on eBay!!!). If I can’t sell it, I can use it for the lambswool that it’s made out of.

One thing that was really great was that Shawn called me! Mr. Vance! I only talk to him about every 3-6 months, but when we do talk, we can pick right up where we left off, like we had just spoke yesterday or something 🙂 The only other friend that called was Hakimah. Morning didn’t call, but later commented on a FB post about my birthday. Mom and Bee called, but that’s about it. No one else! Even Kwasi’s mom forgot, which I didn’t tell her until today that yesterday was my birthday. Oh well…..

I made myself a card, too. LOL Kwasi signed it with a note. But unfortunately, it got destroyed because Ohene spilled some water on the coffee table where it was lying, and I think it got ruined.

So, that is my birthday! Kwasi offered to get me some cake, but since I am on Weight Watchers, I declined. I think he only wanted to do it because I got HIM cake for his birthday. But that’s okay…… Ohene’s birthday is TOMORROW!!! 🙂 So the cupcakes I make for him can be for me, too 🙂

I have NO idea what to get Ohene for his birthday! I must go to Target today to find something that he might like. He doesn’t play with toys much, so it’s hard to justify spending money on something I know that will just end up in the junk pile of the toy box of discarded toys.

I can’t believe he’s going to be 2 years old!! Time is going fast. I know it’s so cliche, but it really is. 🙁

He’s getting so big! Before Kojo was born, Ohene was my little baby, and it felt like he fit so perfectly in my arms. But after holding a newborn, you realize how BIG that “baby” is, when in reality, they’re a big-ass toddler! LOL He’s huge! And he’s so verbal. He speaks in sentences now. The other day he said to me, “I need socks, Mommy.” HUH?? lol He tells us all the time, “I’m hungry. I want waffles” or some other elaborate sentences. LOL What makes me laugh is the way he fake-cries when playing with some of his toys. As if he’s mimicking the voice of the toy that is sad. Awwww…..

His latest thing is that he likes to PUNCH! And he thinks it’s funny to hit the baby on the head. He also hits us when he gets mad. We know this is just a phase he’s going through, because of the baby. He’s not a hitter. He never has been. And Miss Marilyn doesn’t get a lot of that aggression, so I know it’s just him literally fighting for position.

As for Kwabena, he’s doing well! I’ve been working with him on his writing. His Kindergarten schoolwork is soooo easy. So I challenge him more with working on spelling and learning to write in complete sentences. He has very neat handwriting! And he hasn’t come home with an “Oops” note in quite a while!

Kojo is just darling! He spends his days sleeping, for the most part. And he sleeps okay at night, but has taken on the title of “Supreme Mr. Grunt” compared to Ohene when he was a baby. LOL He is now 9 lbs 11 oz, according to the dr. the other day when I took him in to get his cold evaluated. He goes in on Friday for his 1 month follow-up. Today, however, marks 4 weeks old!!!!

I must post pictures!

I need to write more, but this day has FLOWN by, and it’s already 3 p.m., and I need to go get Kwabena from the bus stop, and go pick up Ohene from Miss Marilyn’s. At some point, I need to go to Target to buy him a toy for his birthday! And balloons!! Lots of colorful ones, so that when he wakes up tomorrow, he will see a room full of balloons! 🙂 Gotta make his birthdays as special as possible, since I tried to make Kwabena’s special, too :).
