Climbing Stairs!!

August 31, 2010 By Serena Leave a Comment

This past Sunday, I wanted to challenge Ohene to see if he could climb the set of stairs at Kwasi’s mom’s house, from the downstairs to the upstairs. And wouldn’t you know it……. He did! I had helped him with the first two, before getting the landing, just to “show” him how it’s done, since he’s never climbed stairs before (like those). But just those two practice ones, and he was off! OMG, my baby isn’t a baby anymore!

This past weekend I also discovered that Ohene knows how to climb the first two ladder steps of Kwabena’s bed! Which now means I can’t leave the two of them alone anymore in the room. LOL

Things with Kwabena are getting better. I’ve been trying this new “3 penny” idea, where he gets 3 pennies everyday, and his goal is to keep them and use them to “buy” TV time, snack, or milk. And it’s up to him to decide if he wants to follow directions, which allows him to keep his pennies, or to NOT follow directions and lose a penny for each time we have to repeat ourselves. WOW, our evenings have been different! Just last night I cooked spaghetti with broccoli, and we had a real meal at the table like a real family should. (LOL, since we only have 2 chairs at our little glass table, Kwasi and Kwabena used those, and Ohene sat in his exersaucer, and I sat on a big box of diapers. LOL But it worked!). And that’s how we ate 🙂 And that penny trick sure made Kwabena stay glued to his seat. I told him, “Each time you get up without asking to get up, we take away a penny.” And don’t you know he sat there throughout the whole dinner? Normally this kid thinks he can just take a bite, get up and leave, take a bite, flop around in his seat, etc. The goal here is hopefully with enough repetition, he will soon have a new “normal” for how to eat at the table here (FYI, he has better table manners at daycare, probably because she’s instilled that in the kids).

So anyhow, we’ll continue with that method of behavior modification! Although, the pennies are choking hazards for the kids (especially if Ohene gets his hands on one). So I’m considering replacing the pennies with dollar bills 🙂

As for homebuying……We’re getting there!!! Weeks ago, we got a low-ball offer from someone who currently rents in our development that wants to buy. And she didn’t want to counter offer. Anyhow….since we dropped the price, she is now back, and willing to meet in the middle. I think her offer is reasonable. The funny thing is that this is the SAME price that I was hoping to sell for to begin with! LOL She’s not asking for closing help, so I think we should be able to walk away with the $10K that we had hoped to do.

And I found the house I want! It’s listed a bit higher than what I had hoped, but it is really nice, close to here, and in a better school district. And it has all the things I want: backyard, room for an office, sewing room, 3 bedrooms, etc. And everything has been updated in the home, which is great, because I don’t think we’ll have time or money to start upgrading shit when we move in. I would rather spend my weekends enjoying the house instead of having to fix it up. With 2 kids, it’s hard. Even just keeping this place CLEAN and “show-ready” has been difficult each weekend. I feel like a bad mom for having my kids in front of the TV (oh, believe me, by Kwabena’s choice, though!!) while I spend a couple hours taking care of getting the house “show-ready.”

Anyhow, we’re headed back today to see the house for the second time, this time with Kwasi in tow. If I like it, I’m going to accept that girl’s offer on our condo AND put a contract on that other house! Wish us luck!
