Although it’s been several weeks now since Ohene’s been able to walk, this weekend (today, in particular), he really has shown us his walking skills! He’s venturing out more, and is walking a good 8 feet or more! Crazy!! Kwasi calls him “The Zombie” the way he balances his little arms in front of himself. So cute!!!
Man….it’s been super hectic around here…. Our condo closing is this Friday, November 12th…..and then we move into Kwasi’s mom’s house for a good 3 weeks until the closing on our house (Nov. 30th) goes through and our stuff is delivered on Dec. 4th. We’re using PODS, which is going to be the most reasonable solution for us.
This weekend I had hoped to get more done, but I guess maybe I’m just FEELING like I didn’t accomplish much. I had to ship the kids off to Kwasi’s mom’s house yesterday for 5 hours or so, just so I could finish packing up. Today I wanted to paint the closets (they’re a mess– totally scuffed), but Ohene was like my little shadow and didn’t want me to be too far from him. So getting anything done in that area wasn’t really much of an option. UGH!
Overall, though, I think we’ve got a large amount of stuff packed up, and it’s only small things here and there. The PODS is being delivered tomorrow, so after that comes, Kwasi can start taking things down. It will be picked up on Thursday. But I’m going to see if they can come late in the day on Thursday, so that we have time to fill it up. I am off work for Veteran’s Day on Thursday. I might even change it to Friday morning pick-up.
Today Kwabena said to me (as he was building a “kite” out of my colorful hair curlers that I don’t use, lol), “Mommy, pay attention to ME.” It was sad to hear that. Especially today Ohene has been super clingy and I do admit that a lot of times much of my attention is on Ohene. I mean, he’s super cute, and he deserves some of the attention that Kwabena got at this age (which is still only a fraction of what Kwabena used to get). But, I need to make sure that my Boo-Boo (a.k.a. Kwabena) is still getting what he needs from me. I tried to explain to him tonight while putting him to bed that I don’t mean to give him less attention; it’s just that Ohene is a baby and is more time-consuming and clingy. I hope he can understand. And I hope that once this packing and moving thing is done, I can give my kids BOTH more attention and concentration!
Here’s Kwabena’s colorful “hair curler kite.” LOL. This is how creative kids are when they have all their toys packed away!
1. Ohene can point to your nose if you ask him where your nose is! Of course, now, that’s ALL he labels, even if you ask him where your ears are. LOL. I think he’s slowly getting it, though…. LOL
2. Kwabena, me, and Kwasi, and Ohene went to Trey’s football game (varsity! even as a Sophomore!) on Friday night. On the way there, Wacka Flaka Flame’s song came on about “dropping it low…..watch that booty go.” Well, Kwabena heard the first part and was like, “I like this song, I want to listen to it.” Okay, so he just heard the beat….Well, stupid me left it on (I like the song, too, dammit!), and didn’t think Kwabena would pick up the words. Sure enough, though, next thing he does is crack up laughing, and sang, “They said, ‘boottttyy gooooo'”. LOL It actually was pretty funny, but it’s one of those things where you know it’s not appropriate to laugh, but you just can’t fucking help it. Now he seems to think that it’s something to sing around the house . And tonight he told me he was going to “teach Ohene” those words when he gets bigger. Ay yay yay…….
3. Ohene loves to color and draw!! I’ve been putting in in his high chair with paper and crayons. He really loves it. I’m surprised he knows what’s he’s doing (e.g. holding the crayon), without having to have been shown! Maybe he will be my little artist in training…..
4. Some little quotes I have thought of:
a. Every day is another opportunity to succeed where you failed the previous day.
b. In all situations, it’s quite easy to become frustrated when you don’t get what you want, exactly when you want it. Sometimes that’s a tragedy……Sometimes that’s a blessing. Your job is to sit back and patiently figure out that which it is– a tragedy, or a blessing. And then say “Okay” and move on.
5. When we were going to Cirque du Soleil a few weeks ago…..ME: “Kwabena, tomorrow we are going to our event.” KWABENA: “Chick Fil-A?” ME (confused): “Huh??…..OH! You mean Cirque du Soleil!!!” LMAO
6. Kwabena has asked me a couple times to post things on Facebook! Hilarious! I might say, “Oh, yeah, and I can get some good pics.” And Kwabena would say, “And then you can post it on Facebook!” That’s when you know you’re addicted. LOL
7. On September 10, Ohene was lying in bed next to Kwabena (in OUR bed, that is), playing with Kwabena’s ears. Very cute! Ohene’s got this thing for ears; when he gets tired, he starts playing with his. Awwww…….Once, we thought it had ear infections, but his ears came back clean. So I’ve deduced that it’s his way of self-soothing when he’s tired. Awww…..
8. September 6th, when Ohene was 8.5 months old, he was standing on his own!!
9. On September 13th, Kwabena wanted to know what the chef on the Cooking channel was cooking…….Kwasi told him “A hamburger.” Kwabena asked, “What’s a hand-burger.” I realized all he’s ever know is “veggie burger”! LOL
10. On September 29th, we laid in bed watching The Flintstones (on-demand), eating Papa John’s thin-crust people. What a way to spend family time!!
