Easier Than Expected

December 23, 2009 By Serena Leave a Comment

Being a mom of two…..at least thus far….has been a lot easier than expected. Okay, so yeah, it’s only been a week or so. But I have to admit that a lot has changed from when we first became parents. I remember that awkward first night home, and those first 2 weeks of adjustment….But I haven’t felt that way this time around.

Ohene has blended in nicely with our family. Maybe it’s because he sleeps 22 hours per day. HA! Or maybe because I have an awesome 3.5 year old who has handled this change like a trooper. Or maybe because I have an awesome husband who’s stepped in where needed. Maybe it’s a combination from all of these things. But whatever the reasons, it’s going very well so far!

I’m not feeling as exhausted as I was the first couple days home. I’m actually going to bed at a decent time (um…midnight??)……and even though Ohene is waking 2-3 times per night to nurse, I can quickly lie him next to me to nurse and fall back to sleep. And if he’s only wet, I will wait till later in the morning (6 a.m., perhaps) to change his diaper (or, I’ll call on Kwasi to change it if it’s poopy, LOL).

But anyhow, all is going well! We’ve had some challenges with Kwabena in the evening, but this isn’t due to the baby, per se. He’s been home with us due to snow closures at daycare. And it’s our faults that he’s usually not getting his afternoon nap, which leaves him super active from exhaustion at night. Recently, however, we put our foot down and tell him well in advanced what we expect of him (to nap, just like at daycare). Sure enough, 1 p.m. rolls around and he naps until nearly 4:30 p.m. or so! Oh, and plus, Kwasi has taken him to Chuck E. Cheese. So imagine my pleasure when he comes back home a NORMAL child, not super hyperactive from sleep deprivation!!! 🙂
