ME: “Kwabena, am I a good Mommy?”
KWABENA: “Yes, you are a good Mommy.”
ME: “Why do you think I am a good Mommy?”
KWABENA: “Because you do good things. Miss Marilyn [daycare provider] doesn’t do good things.”
ME: “She doesn’t? What kind of things does Miss Marilyn do that aren’t good?”
KWABENA: “She hurts me.”
ME: “How does she hurt you?”
KWABENA: “She takes a hammer and hits me.” (Kwabena laughs)
ME: “Oh, I don’t think Miss Marilyn does that to you. Tell me what good things Miss Marilyn does?”
KWABENA: “She punches me in the face.” (Kwabena laughs.)
*sigh*…..Weren’t we just talking about these fantasies, in my mom’s group, that our kids make up? These statements, of course, aren’t true…But I wonder what kind of things he’s picking up from daycare to make him say these types of things. They sound violent! I wonder if other kids say these types of things? Hmmmm……
