HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KWABENA!!!!!
Today my baby turned 5 years old!
I took the say off from work so I could take the boys to Pump It Up, this indoor inflatables place in Elkridge. I had never been there before because the open jump hours are so odd and don’t correspond to work time. But I knew that by taking off today and taking him there and we’d be able to get to enjoy it. And that, he did!!
We got there a little after 9:15 a.m., when the open hours started, and left at 11 a.m., when open hours ended. There were about 7 inflatables in there, most of which Ohene was scared of because of the small openings, LOL, but those that Kwabena absolutely loved. I got some good video of the kids enjoying it! Ohene wasn’t scared if I went in with him, but some of them were not really feasible for me because of being 20 weeks pregnant, so I had to be careful.
But overall, it was a fun time, and only $7.00 to get in (for Kwabena only; Ohene and I were free).
Afterwards, we stopped at Yo-Yo Cafe to get lunch. UGH, it was tasteless, and I ended up ordering the wrong sushi (should have gotten avocado rolls versus vegetable rolls, which had mushrooms). While waiting for the food, we went to the Dollar Tree, where I bought each of the kids a balloon.
We went home and had lunch with Kwasi. And then, while Ohene napped, I tried to set up the slip and slide, but Kwabena did it once and hated it. LOL! He thought the water was too cold, and so, that was a waste of money, but hey, only $5.99, oh well. We ended up pulling off the hose, filling up the super soaker, and Kwasi, me, and Kwabena had the best water fight! Never mind the fact that I had JUST spend 2 hours blow drying my hair the day before. SIGH….. But hell, we had a great time spraying each other with water, getting totally soaked, and enjoyed our backyard.
(Speaking of backyard, holy crap, there is a LOT of small crickets and bugs and gnats in that backyard!! We need to get some sort of insect treatment going on back there……).
Anyhow, Ohene had woken up shortly after we had cleaned and dried up. I put him back to sleep and fell asleep myself, only to woken up shortly after by Kwabena, complaining of not having anything to do. LOL He had been watching TV, but I guess he wanted me to play with him. I realized we needed to go and pick up his cake from Safeway, so me, him, and Ohene (who had woken up, too), all went for cake, ice cream, and chips.
We came home and started some yummy dinner (Tofurky, kale salad, and sweet potatoes). But it wasn’t going to be anytime soon, and Kwasi’s mom and brother (Kofi) were coming over soon. When they got there, we had some cake and ice cream shortly after.
I didn’t like how Kwasi and Kofi (particularly Kwasi) were making comments about how I went overboard on Kwabena’s birthday…..commenting about “who takes off on their kid’s birthday, anyhow???” I had to point out to him, compared to normal people, simply having cake and ice cream is nowhere near going over board! I mean, most people have parties with moon bounces…..parties at Chuck E. Cheese……parties with 30+ people…..Now THAT is a real celebrate, and not even really going over board. So me taking off work to take the kids somewhere special and having cake and ice cream is simple.
After cake and ice cream, we all went out back to play a little bit. But there were so many bugs, mosquitoes (which are terrible around here!), etc., we didn’t stay outside for very long. We came in and hung out for a little bit, and then Kwasi’s mom and brother left.
I was a little surprised that Bee had forgotten to call Kwabena to say happy birthday. I was mentioning to Kwabena tonight, “Is there anyone that you wanted to call you that didn’t?” And he mentioned Camryn. 🙁 I didn’t want to call THEM, because honestly, do you really want to call someone to say, “Hey! You forgot to call me for my birthday!!” No, you don’t want to do that. You just want to see to whom your birthday is important. And I guess Bee totally forgot. I’d rather her feel like crap that she forgot. I’m sure Camryn will talk to him tomorrow.
Anyhow, at the end of the night came showers, making the bed up, and night-night. 🙂
Kwabena really enjoyed his birthday!!
🙂
