Friday was Kwasi’s birthday, and what a day! In previous years, I don’t remember us having as much fun as we did that day.
First, we went to Cirque du Soleil to celebrate. It took forever just to figure out where we were going, so by the time we got on the road, it was 3:15 p.m. Um…..the show was supposed to start at 4 p.m.! Kwasi told me to lighten up, but when you drop some serious cash on a show, being late isn’t an option! We ended up being about 10 minutes late to the show, but it was a 2.5 hour show, so no problem.
The show as okay. I was expecting a bit more for the price it cost, but I think the most important was the quality time that me, Kwasi, and Kwabena spent together. And for that, it was priceless!
Kwabena did so great for a 28 month old child sitting through a 2.5 hour show. The show was entertaining, but there were parts that were just not as interesting to him. And by hour 2… he was more interested in sitting on the popcorn-littered floor than in watching the show.
Oh…..but the most interesting part was how Kwabena decided to take a nice shit only 5 minutes before the 20 minute intermission was over. Great timing, Kwabena! I led him to the bank of restrooms located on the outside of the tent. To my dismay, they were only stalls, with the sink outside of the stalls! YIKES! We trekked over to the bathroom that had a changing table. WHEW! But what an image–Kwabena on the changing table, shit up his back (thank GOD it didn’t get on his clothes–I had no change of clothes for him!!), me rinsing paper towels in the ice cold sink, hands blocks of ice by this point….with a very happy, oblivious toddler singing tunes while his Mommy wipes his poopy butt, anxious to get back to the show.
When we got back inside, the part I had been most looking forward to……had just ended!! Aye ye ye……… LOL
Afterwards, we dropped Kwabena off at Kwasi’s mom’s house……picked up his brother….. and went out to Cheesecake Factory. I felt like a bad mom for leaving Kwabena behind. As we were headed to Kwasi’s mom’s house, he kept saying, “I don’t want to go to Nana Ba’s house. I want to go to restaurant and eat food!” SIGH………. I know…. I wanted to take him, but if we were going to go out afterwards into DC, it didn’t make sense to have to drive all the way back to Kwasi’s mom’s house to drop off Kwabena. So we left him there.
But we had such a great time that night. Lots of dancing… drinking… I don’t even remember the name of the place we went to–some hole in the wall place that was nearly deserted when we got there. But it quickly filled, and became a nice little chill spot.
I was designated driver….. and thank GOD I didn’t over-drink….because driving home, we got pulled over for having only my hazard lights on. UGH….
What a fun time!

I saw them on Facebook. Looks like so much fun!
