Last night we were over at the new house (check out the new house blog) doing some work, so I didn’t have computer time to even update any blogs. It’s a little past midnight now, all are sleeping, and Mommy’s got some quiet computer time to update everything and everyone. 🙂
Yeah, so my beautiful baby is officially a toddler now!!! Really hard to believe it’s gone so fast. I’ll say it again– You never know how quickly time has passed until you look at children. It is truly then that you see times has passed you right by, yet the whole time you felt like it stood still.
I definitely wanted to get little Henny-Poo something he would enjoy, so I bought him a toy cell phone (since he loves playing with phones now and pretending to talk on them), and a box of plastic blocks– the ones you have to put the shaped block through the shaped opening on the top. Classic toy. I figured he’d like those things, and he did! I didn’t spend much money. Really, I don’t have much to spend. I’m on a tttiiiiggghhht budget right now (more on that in a sec). Anyhow, he loved his gifts. I let him open them before leaving for daycare. I don’t know who was more excited– him or Kwabena. Well, definitely Kwabena. LOL
After work yesterday I stopped and picked up a half dozen of my favorite, Georgetown Cupcakes. I got Ohene and Kwabena the Gingerbread man ones. Ohene was so cute– he grabbed his hand in the box, got a little frosting, and then didn’t want to eat any dinner when he saw what we in that box. 🙂 We waited until after dinner, though. Gotta eat something at least a little nutritious before the junk!
So after we ate, Kwabena and I (I say “Kwabena and I” because Kwasi was more engaged in his computer….or was in a crappy mood or something, probably from bitching at Kwabena) lit a candle on top of the Gingerbread cupcake and Kwabena and I (yes, only us), sang Happy Birthday to Ohene.
It was actually a little sad, though.
The reason why is because although Kwabena didn’t get a big party or anything when he turned a year old (it was just me, Kwasi, Kwasi’s parents [his dad was alive then] and his brother, Kofi). But at least we had hats…..a real cake….everyone was involved….and it was a big thing for us! Our baby was one!! But poor Ohene….There he sat on my lap, with no hats….just me and Kwabena (not even his dad), singing a pathetic Happy Birthday to him, eating cupcakes. (Although, Georgetown Cupcakes are very divine!!). But, Kwasi’s mom was upstairs and must not have wanted to come down when Kwabena went up and told her we were going to have cupcakes. And Kwasi’s brother wasn’t even here…..
I just feel like poor Henny-Poo gets the short end of the stick. That whole “Second Kid Syndrome” thing. Kwabena gets a little party, and Ohene is just left to “fend for himself.” I feel sad about that. 🙁
Now, I’m not one to make a big deal about parties and all that. Kwabena’s 4th birthday was a little pathetic, too. HAHAHA. It was basically just us at the house, and my friend, Hakimah came over, and we put on hats, and sang Happy Birthday. But I really think he’s at the age where he can have a bigger party, with friends, etc. And now that we have a big backyard, we can actually invite people OVER and do water games, and other fun stuff, since his birthday is in the summer. That will be cool.
But anyhow, I felt sad that Ohene’s birthday wasn’t even a blip on the radar for anyone. Even my sister forgot all about it until later that night. It’s like, after your first child, baby #2 just isn’t “as” special to people. And I don’t want that to be the case at all. Both of my kids are special, and I want to make sure Ohene isn’t getting the shitty end of the stick.
Anyhow, here are a few pics from the morning and evening! Unfortunately, our normal camera’s charger is packed away somewhere, so until then, all we have are these shoddy camera phone pics. UGH….. That’s another thing! I’ve got excellent pics and video of Kwabena’s birthday, yet Ohene gets the low-resolution shots. LOL…… BOoo!
