Yes, you’ve read correctly: Tomorrow we’re going Indoor Skydiving at the Niagara Freefall Interactive Center! I discovered the brochure on our way home from Niagara Falls today. I knew immediately that I was going to do this. I had seen it on TV some time ago and couldn’t wait for the opportunity to do it! The closest place I was aware of was in Florida, and I knew it would be some time before I went to Florida. So to discover that there’s one right in our backyard this weekend….OMG, I’m so excited!
It’s a little pricey ($70 for 3 minutes of simulated freefall, but with a $5 coupon), but damn, who cares?! We’re on vacation and I’ve been dying to do this! (I’ve also been wanting to hang-glide, but I haven’t had that opportunity yet). 🙂
Today was so much fun, as well! Although we hung around the house until nearly 1 p.m. (hey, you can do that when you’re on vacation), we still have plenty of day to enjoy ourselves. First we stopped off at the grocery store for some fresh fruit, soy milk, and other necessities. We picked up lunch from Wendy’s, located next door. I bitched and complained because all Kwabena wanted to do was dip his tongue in ketchup or suck it off of a french fry, and each time I tried to take it away, Daddy gave in and squeezed even more ketchup into Kwabena’s mouth in order to appease him. Grrrr…..So much for watching high blood pressure for a 2-year old!
Afterwards, Kwabi fell asleep in the car on the way to the falls (of course). It was well past his usually nap time. When we arrived to Niagara Falls region, Kwasi and Kojo let me run into the casino for a little opportunity to test my luck. Well, let’s just say, Lady Luck was not on my side today! I lost $20 on stupid slots (why do I even bother with those things?) and $80 on the roulette table. Ugh…..The cheapest table I could find was $10 per hand, versus the $15 at the other table. So I sat and played…..AND LOST! Out of all the hands I played, I only won twice. It soooo wasn’t enjoyable. I knew that $100 was my limit, so I played until I was out. Coincidentally at that time they had just raised the stakes to $15 per hand; way out of my price range! Oh well….maybe next time.
When I finished, I found Kwasi and Kojo still waiting for me outside the lobby, sitting at the cool $2 million water fountain, with Kwabena still knocked out. I was disappointed he wasn’t awake because there was an awesome toy store next door that I would have loved for him to check out. It has fun Thomas & Friends toys, as well as a lot of other intriguing things.
On the way to the falls, Kwasi kept trying to rouse Kwabena so that he could see the falls, but I knew once we got on the Maid of the Mist falls tour boat that he’d be awake by then, and he was. He was a bit groggy and quiet as we boarded the tour boat, seemingly unphased by the hot, sticky plastic rain poncho given to us which trapped the humidity in the air close to our bodies (I could feel the sweat trickling down my back). But we were excited and expectant as the falls’ mist sprayed our face and the boat unsteadily rocked us back and forth as it lingered in the middle of the falls so we could “ooh” and “ahh” for a bit. It was nice to at least say we had done it (since we hadn’t had the opportunity the last time we were in Canada in 2004), but the Maid of the Mist was way overrated. The best part was seeing a beautiful rainbow under the falls. That was gorgeous! Kwabena didn’t seem too impressed by it all, although whenever I ask him if he had a good time on the boat ride, he starts singing our made-up song about it “raining on our heads.” 🙂
After the falls, we walked back through the casino lobby to allow Kwabi a chance to see the $2 million water fountain, and to go to the toystore, where I picked him up a Harold helicopter from the Thomas & Friends collection 🙂 He’s sleeping with it tonight, actually. LOL
We had dinner at Boston Pizza. We weren’t much impressed! For a little pizza that barely wetted your appetite, it cost about $10! How fair is it that the children’s menu has that pizza, fries, drink, and a cookie for $7, but the adult food is WAYYYY overpriced….?!?!
Enough tangents…..
When we got home, I bathed Kwabena, and put him to bed. I was hoping for an easy night, but it still had its challenges; another night of tossing and turning. But when Kwabi yawned and told me, “I’m sleepy, Mommy” I knew that it would be moments before he was asleep! And for some reason, lately he’s been insisting to be covered up with blankets when he sleeps. The problem is that it’s usually 78 degrees or more inside! Tonight he wanted the blanket on…..his socks on…….and he had beads of cold sweat soaking his head and back. But he insisted. LOL When he was knocked out, I took off his socks and peeled off the blankets in an effort to cool him off.
So today was a great day, as well! Even though I wasn’t completely impressed with the Maid of the Mist boat tour today, I was completely aware of the great time I had spending it with Kwasi, Kwabi, and Kojo. After all, being with family is key, no matter what you’re doing. And I’m thankful for this opportunity 🙂
I am looking forward to the Indoor Skydiving tomorrow! We might also do go-cart racing, too!
I’ll post pics when I get home. I didn’t bring my laptop or my thumb drive to upload pics. Definitely once I get home! 🙂
