It’s 2:30 a.m…..

July 2, 2010 By Serena Leave a Comment

….on a Friday morning….so what am I doing up?? Well, tonight I put Ohene down to sleep in his new Pack n’ Play (PNP)….the one I rushed out to buy this evening because we terrible parents have let our child fall out of our bed 3 TIMES in the last 2 weeks!!! And of course Ohene hated it and cried every time I put him down in the PNP, even though that’s what he uses at Miss Marilyn’s in daycare every day. I guess it was foreign to him this evening, and he likes the coziness of our bed. Anyhow, I finally gave up after bouts of crying to come and get him, and laid with him in bed and we both fell asleep. Now, after 4 hours of sleep, I’m feeling alert and awake (just nursed Ohene a bit ago, and pumped whatever was left). So I figured, why not blog, since it’s been nearly 2 weeks since I last blogged?

Ohene just had his 6-month check-up earlier this week (or was it last week?) and he’s now 18 lbs 14 oz, and 28″ long! I’m sure this is synonymous with Kwabena’s stats, because they’ve been growing on the same curve. But Kwabena’s stats are packed away; maybe I can find them electronically…?

Ohene is cutting teeth this week!! I noticed the two little buds several days ago, and of course, when he chomped down on my finger, I noticed the sharpness. Awww! My baby is growing up so quickly!

Kwabena is doing okay, although having behavioral issues at Miss Marilyn’s sporatically. I just don’t know what the problem is. Lack of sleep at times?? Poor diet at times?? Maybe it’s just his personality. I don’t know…. But I know we could be doing a better job of getting him in bed earlier than 9 p.m. or 9:30 p.m. He needs to be in bed, lights off, by 8 p.m. But shit, considering that we don’t really have much time together in the evenings, that seems so early. But if he needs the sleep, then we need to do a better job of helping him get the rest he needs.

He’s going through this non-listening phase. Terrible two’s?? Nah….I would say terrible-three’s! He thinks he can just do whatever he wants, without following directions, and thinks everything is a joke. It isn’t until I raise my voice, which I rarely do, that he takes notice that I am serious, and then he cries, and then does what I had been asking him to do 100 times repeatedly. But I also know that this isn’t just my child; that’s why I’m glad that I’ve got my BabyCenter mamams, because I know they’ve got their listening challenges, too.

Kwabena’s friend at daycare, Bryce, was having a little birthday party at Miss Marilyn’s earlier this week, and Kwabena was so jealous. He was spoiling it for everyone else, according to Miss Marilyn, because he was making negative faces, and saying he was “angry with myself” because he hadn’t yet turned 4. (LOL) She tried to tell him that you have to be happy for other people and let them have their special day. Yes, it’s a good thing to instill in kids about being happy for others, but I don’t know many 3 year olds that wouldn’t feel that same jealously when all the attention is focused on some other kid turning 4 years old and he knows that HIS birthday is soon, but not soon enough. Then again, maybe other kids don’t. Kwabena IS an attention-whore, as Kwasi refers to it. LOL He wants everything and everyone to focus on HIM. I wonder where he got that from? 😉 Just kidding!

Anyhow, hopefully we more sleep, better eating habits, and more time with Mommy and Daddy, and as a family, some of this attention and anger and behavioral issues will subside.

Speaking of family time, damn, do you know the last time it was that we went anywhere as a family?? Memorial Day. When was that? About a month ago. We went to a cook-out. But that means, for the whole month of June, not once did we go somewhere as a family. Isn’t that pathetic? We must try harder. We’re so disjointed at times. Hopefully Kwabena’s birthday/holiday weekend ahead we will do something fun together. Sunday is 4th of July, so we will catch fireworks, and maybe some shopping earlier in the day. That will be nice. Last birthday weekend we went berry picking, went to the Spy Museum, etc. It was a lot of fun!

Today I called in “sick” from work, just to have time to work on the house. I tell you, it’s soooo challenging finding the time to squeeze it all in! I had a dr. appointment this morning, and by the time I got back from there, and from my Home Depot detour, half the day was gone. I didn’t accomplish much. I did get the mirror down from the hall bath (per our agent’s suggestion to install framed vanity mirrors versus keeping up the big apartment style mirrors). Kwasi spray painted it silver, although we need to fix all the errors from the plastic sheeting messing it up. I installed the cabinet handles on the vanity after applying a fresh coat of paint. And we also took down the big mirror in the master bathroom, and prepped the mirror for installation. I will try to do that tomorrow after I come home. I can’t afford to take another “sick” day. That may be too suspect……

But after all this, the condo SHOULD be ready for the market at the beginning of next week. There still seems so much to do to Kwabena’s room, and some touch-ups to my room. But I am just ready to get this thing on the market and have people tell me they want to buy it for top dollar!!

I think we’re listing it for $213,000. We won’t get that, for sure, but it leaves wiggle room for negotiation. And besides, we’ve done a LOT of upgrades, and I’m sure we’re going to sell quickly.

Anyhow……a couple days ago I heard from our tenant living in our Hagerstown townhouse that she is giving her 30-days notice since she is moving to SC to accept her dream job. Oh no! Well, that was my first reaction. But since posting the listing on Craig’s List, we’ve had numerous hits, and some of them appear very promising! Even though Cari will be out this weekend, she’s okay with me going in to show the property to interested folks. Hoping for another good tenant!

As for me, just got back from NYC this past weekend! Me and my girl, Hakimah, with whom I work and have developed a close friendship with in only the past 3 months, went up to see Alicia Keys on the Good Morning America show, summer concert series. I will have to write more about our trip. It was fun! Her daughter, Ajah, and her sister, Rashida, went along, as well. We liked it so much we’re headed back at the end of July, to see the Black Eyes Peas! My friend, Lamarr, may be going, too. And we’re staying RIGHT in Times Square! WOOT WOOT!

Okay, better head to bed…It’s nearly 3 a.m.!
