Kwabena’s New Bed!

December 21, 2008 By Serena Leave a Comment

I’m still trying to stay with the theme of not really buying people gifts, but giving of MYSELF for Christmas. So I am up at 6:30 a.m. (before Kwabena even woke up!), and I have just made myself a really nice gift for my Mom–one she will appreciate.

Yesterday was a MAD HOUSE at the stores! I went with Kwabena to the mall to check out a bed system that I wanted to buy for him. All the parking spaces were taken–it was crazy. Usually, I am not one that minds the Christmas holiday crowds, but yesterday was enough for me to throw my hands up and say, “Okay, next year–uh huh.”

Anyhow, I bought Kwabena a new bed!!! I had started looking for a “car bed” for him, since he kept asking me for one. I went on Craig’s List to find one used, but didn’t care for what I saw. And I didn’t want to buy a bed that, in a short period of time, his interests would change and he wouldn’t want it anymore. Even if purchased used, those car beds are about $200 (regular price $400!). And after doing some measuring, I realized that car bed would have been HUMUNGOUS in his room.

So I wanted something that was going to be good quality, and very functional. We live in a 2-BR condo, and honestly, even though home prices and rates are phenomenol, we still aren’t sure we’re ready to increase our mortgage yet. This bed will allow us to make bunk beds in the future, or to raise it even higher and to put a desk and dresser underneath. We can also remove one of the side rails and use it as a daybed. So, either way, the bed will get plenty of use, and will give us the option of putting two kids in one bedroom.

Anyhow, here’s the bed frame that we bought Kwabena:

And here’s what the bed looks like after you add play curtains and such. He actually loved playing under this bed while at the store! He called it his “house.” LOL

And later we can add storage underneath if we want to:

I didn’t go “all out” for the bed, though….I did put my foot down at the ladder attachment. LOL
