Potty Training Update

December 13, 2008 By Serena Leave a Comment

The other day Kwabena actually told Miss Marilyn that he had to use the potty, and he went and took a big poop!

So we’ve made a lot of progress in the last month! And I have to admit that I haven’t really been doing anything to “train” Kwabena, per se…. Really, all I have been doing is taking off his pull-up or diaper when he gets home from daycare. And on the weekends, I don’t use pull-ups or diapers. The only time that he uses pull-ups or diapers when he’s with me is when it’s time to go to bed (including naps), and when we leave the house. At daycare he uses pull-ups everyday.

Last night he actually told me that he had to pee, and then went to the bathroom to use his potty.

This morning we were playing, and I knew he had to pee (he was grabbing at his pants several times). Instead of coaxing him into going to the bathroom (he sometimes doesn’t like to stop what he’s doing to go use the bathroom), I just let him play, just to see what would happen. And sure enough, he peed in his pajama bottoms. LOL

Oh, well….he’s learning. I’m not pushing him. In his own time, he is learning. I believe I am just setting the environment for him to learn. And eventually, he will. He’s actually doing quite good with learning to use the potty, because many kids this age, particularly boys, aren’t even learning.
