I am now officially on a part-time work status as of yesterday. Wow, where did maternity leave go?
I love my job and coworkers and supervisors. It’s not so much the work itself, but rather the flexibility and easy to get along with personalities. Considering that my last job was less-than (several years ago), I’m happy where I am for the time being. They’ve been super flexible about allowing me to do some assignments from home to fill in a few hours here and there, in order to extend and save some of my vacation time throughout February. I’m scheduled to return full-time on March 1st.
I’m really actually loving maternity leave! With Kwabena, in the early weeks, I was quite bored. Babies don’t do much other than sleep, eat, poop, pee, burp, throw up, and a couple other basic things. LOL. So I found myself going to Target often, spending money, and just trying to keep myself entertained until he could entertain me. This time, however, I have my knitting, Facebook, and–oh, did I mention the big time-waster Facebook??–to keep me busy when Ohene is sleeping, which is a lot. This kid loves to sleep!
Waking up around 7 a.m. and getting Kwabena to daycare about 9 a.m. has been working nicely. This week, however, I am helping Kwasi’s uncle’s wife’s nephew, Sean, (also 3 years old), get to daycare in the mornings, and he has to be there by 8:30 a.m. at the latest, so that’s been keeping me on schedule with getting up a little earlier than normal. It’s good for me, so that I don’t get completely spoiled with this lax lifestyle. LOL
Things around here are good. Ohene is smiling now!!! It’s the cutest little smile! Because I broke our camera a couple weeks ago, I haven’t been able to post as much pictures. But have no fear–we just ordered the Canon G11 from Amazon, and it’ll be here next week! I am going to get a warrantee on it this time around, though…..
I also have an external hard drive coming. My poor Macbook Pro is loaded with nearly 12,000 pictures and nearly 1,100 videos, no shittin’ you. It’s crazy! So, even with a new camera, I couldn’t take tons of pics without this external hard drive on which to shuffle files.
Kwabena’s doing excellent, as usual. He loves Ohene sooo much. It actually irritates Kwasi how much Kwabena kisses and loves on Ohene. LOL. Within a span of 10 seconds, Ohene might be bombarded with 5 or more kisses from Kwabena! I personally think it’s cute. Nothing like some brotherly love! I mean, he could be trying to beat the shit out of Ohene, so the fact that he loves him so much is a POSITIVE thing, in my opinion. LOL
The latest struggle I’ve had with Kwabena is that occasionally he says he doesn’t like going to Miss Marilyn’s because he doesn’t like writing. He says he likes tracing, but not other writing that requires him to write on his own (oh–he says he likes writing the number “4” and “5,” though. LOL). I was taking all of this too literal, thinking that he might be too pressured with doing work that he’s not ready for. But I wasn’t sure if it was that, or if he was just not wanting to do it simply for the fact that it’s not “fun.”
After careful consideration, though, I realize that it’s totally appropriate for him to be expected to do some writing. And I don’t want him to think that just because he doesn’t WANT to do something doesn’t mean that he’s going to get out of it. It would be a different thing if he COULDN’T do the work. But because he doesn’t WANT to really isn’t a reason. If it’s because it hurts his hand or something, because he needs more strength with his grip, then surely I can do things to build up his grip. And the more writing he does, the more he will enjoy it and get better at it.
Plus, we plan to start Kwabena in Kindergarten next year. Wow…I can’t believe he will be old enough for school! But if that’s only 1.5 years away (Fall 2011), then he really needs to get comfortable with writing, as well as being able to sit and do work and activities. That will be what is expected of him.
Well, on another note, my boy is growing big! Kwabena has grown 2.5″ since July! And he’s wearing a size 11 shoe, but recently told me it feels tight. So I believe he’s now in a size 12, according to my measurement at the mall over the weekend. Holy shit! 🙂 I wonder if Ohene will be as big as Kwabena? According to their 1 month stat comparisons, their on the same growth curve so far….We shall see!
