Today Is the Day!!!

June 27, 2011 By Serena Leave a Comment

Today we find out if the baby is a boy or a girl!!!!! I have been anxiously awaiting this since the last ultrasound weeks and weeks ago, and now it’s finally here! I wish I could have just taken off of work this morning, but the appointment isn’t until 2 p.m. and I don’t want to use up any unnecessary sick leave.

All weekend I have been looking forward to it, as it drew nearer! Yesterday we went to Hagerstown to visit for the day, and when we got home, Ohene was asleep, but in a light sleep. I had to lie down with him in order to get him to stay asleep (every time I tried to get up, his little head would pop up and he would try to climb into my arms, LOL). So, guess who ended up falling asleep at 9 p.m.?? So, by 3 a.m., after countless dreams about ultrasounds and such, I was wide away!

I dreamed that I had gone to the ultrasound appointment, which, somehow, turned into a full-service salon/spa, and I had my hair washed and and straightened by the ultrasound tech. And then, it was time for my appointment. I asked to go get Kwasi and they said sure. Somehow, fast forward to later in that day. Some unknown man who was a friend, was with me at some planatarium or something. Someone asked me if the baby was a boy or a girl, and I said, “OMG, I don’t know! They didn’t even look! I forgot to ask!” So the unknown older male friend of mine started talking about penises or something (does this mean it’s a boy, you think????), and I rushed off to see if I could call them or get to them to do another scan because they forgot to tell me the sex of my baby. Well, some cleaning lady was cleaning the floor, and it was all soapy and I was slippy and sliding a bit, but was still getting down the hallways.

And then I woke up.

Odd!!

Okay, so maybe that is a dream that is telling me the baby is a boy. I mean, to dream of penises…… Must mean something!!

And then I had a dream after this one (after I had gone back to bed around 4 a.m.) that Nana, Kwasi’s brother, was having sex during some orgy, and I remember seeing his penis when he took it out!

Okay….two penis dreams???

I guess my vote is going to be BOY. LOL

I really have had my brain set to GIRL, ever since that perinatologist told me that he didn’t see a penis. I really don’t want to get my hopes set up for a girl, because I don’t want to feel disappointed for another penis in the household. LOL I did realize today, though, that if this baby is another boy, I will never have the option of raising a girl, because I seriously don’t think we’ll have #4. I thought about it today on my drive in– to have another girl means to wait about 2 to 2.5 years from now….THEN, add on another 5 or 6 years of daycare for THAT child…And honestly, I don’t think I’m up for that.

So, let’s just see today. My first importance is that the baby is healthy and I see him/her bouncing around in there (because I’m not feeling a lot of bouncing around in terms of movement). And then second, let’s root for Team Vagina!

But if Team Penis prevails, I know that we’ll be happy, as well 🙂

Our Weekend

This weekend was pretty good. We were supposed to go to Hagerstown this past Saturday, but Mom had to help Trey get packed up for his camp trip. So she wasn’t going to be able to be out-and-about with us. We can’t just go sit over her house, because Kwabena is allergic to cats, and his eyes get really red and swollen and itchy, and sometimes his throat starts itching, too.

So instead of Hagestown on Saturday, we went to the Baltimore Zoo. It was fun! But expensive! Damn! A whopping $27 for me and Kwabena (Ohene was free) to get in, total…..and then $14.50 for three frickin’ slices of pizza and a large pink lemonade. WTF?? I thought the souvenir cup got “FREE” refills because the girl at the window pointed out that “You can get refills with the souvenir cup.” Well, hello??? When I went back to the window, come to find out the refills are $1.06. Um….why tell people you can get refills if they aren’t free? What place have you ever been to where, when you’re told you can get refills, they CHARGE for them??

Anyhow, way overpriced for everything there. It actually would prevent me from going back there again. At least with the DC National Zoo, you pay for parking, and get in free. But if you are so inclined, you can just take the metro, for dollars, and end up spending probaby less than $10 if you take the metro (hell, less than that, I’m sure!!) and pack lunch. There’s more people, and more walking and hills. But at least you aren’t ripped off!

So anyhow, we had a great day! I’m disappointed that I ended up losing all the cute pictures we’d taken, when I lost them in the transfer to my computer (damn battery died during the transfer and I had already allowed the camera to delete all but 2 of them. Grrrr….). But even so, it was a good day 🙂

Yesteray, of course, we went to Hagerstown. Just went over to Bee’s house for a bit while she was at work. Later, she was there as we ate pizza and waited for Krumpee’s to open. But she’s got a cat, too, and although Kwabena had never had an allergic reaction while there, he did yesterday. I felt bad for him, and a bad mom, for keeping taking him to these places where I know there are cats. Mom says I should just give him Benedryl before coming to Hagerstown, but damn, why should I have to drug my kid just to bring him to some homes with nasty cats??

I will have to think this one over, because without Benedryl, we can no longer visit anyone in their home that has cats. Am I overreacting by not wanting to take him to anyone’s house that has a cat? Or should I just give him a dose to prevent reactions, because, after all, it would be sad to never be able to visit Mom or Bee’s house; it would always have to be a visit to outside places. Hmmmmm……….

Ohene is doing really good! He’s such a sweet child! He likes helping me carry in bags from the car, and puttin groceries away for me (at least emptying the bag and bringing me the stuff to put away!). All this, and he’s only 18 months old 🙂 What a cutie 🙂 Even yesterday when we were at Bee’s and we were eating Brother’s Pizza, he took out some slices and was trying to give them away to everyone. He’s so thoughtful!!

Kwabena, on the other hand, that boy takes some special patience to deal with! My GOD! I have told him numerous times not to run into the street to cross, and yet, even though he acts like he understands (“Yes, Mommy”) he still crossed yesterday at Bee’s house, even though I told him not to. He thinks just because he quickly tosses his head both ways, that he is safe. UGH!

Secondly, at the playground, he has a habit of running off to other parts, where he is intersted in what other people are doing. And I told him to not climb up the slide the opposite direction; just slide down, so that other kids aren’t hurt by him climbing up when they’re trying to go down. “Yes, Mommy.” And wouldn’t you know, he did it again!

I don’t know if it’s all 5 year old boys (or nearly 5 years old), but this one– I tell ya– he’s a handful, and I can only imagine what other things we’re going to have to deal with. YIKES!

Well, I’m sure there is more to write, but I’ve got some work to get done before I leave at noon.

Ultrasound, baby!!!!!!!!!!
