Where has the time gone??
Actually, I just turned 20 weeks today….But here’s a pic from several days ago, at 19 weeks!
I’m super pleased with my weight gain so far! I’ve gained about 11 pounds, which hopefully should put me right on target to gain ~30 pounds when all is said and done in December!
We think we’ve settled on a name: Ohene! It means “king” or “chief.”
In Kwasi’s Ghanaian culture, however, you don’t just name your child whatever name you like; it’s supposed to follow the tradition of naming your child for the day they’re born (e.g. Kwasi was born on Sunday). We didn’t follow that tradition with Kwabena. And we’re most likely not following that tradition with this new baby, either.
Somehow the name “Ohene” fits well. It just feels right. Hard to explain. I don’t care who doesn’t like it.

Last night Kwasi, Kwabena, and me gathered on the living room floor and decided to shine a flashlight on the baby, to see if he’d respond! Sure enough! He started moving a bit! Articles say that at this age they should be able to detect a soft glow from a flashlight or bright light on your belly. It worked! Very cute!
I’ve been feeling great this pregnancy! Really loving my bigger boobs, the roundness of my belly, and the way I feel like I’m doing something important 🙂 I’ve kept my weight gain in check, which has allowed me to continue wearing some regular clothes, with my knock-off “belly band” stretchy tank around my unbuttons pants. But it’s getting harder and hard to disguise it with non-maternity shirts! Uh oh–time to go shopping…..
I love feeling Ohene move! He’s gotten stronger over the last few weeks, and now I feel occasional flutters moreso in the lower right part of my abdomen, where the ultrasound recently confirmed that his head it over on that side! Too cute!
Anyhow, it’s 1:04 a.m….Heading to bed now. I just realized that I haven’t really been blogging or journaling about this pregnancy much, and I feel guilty for that. So, here we go–more effort to include my other son (oh, and okay, you, too, Kwasi)! It’s not all about Little Gyata Man anymore! 😉
