I knew my boy was a power house…..today only confirmed it at his 2-year-check up:
Height: 36.75″ …………… (95th percentile)
Weight: 31 pounds ………(between 70th and 95th percentile)
I’m thankful that his iron levels were okay, too! At 12-months, Kwabi’s iron levels were a bit low, so we had to put him on 4 weeks of iron supplements that were so NASTY! Poor thing had to be held down to get his drops. By the end of the 4 weeks, can you believe he willingly opened up for them, as if they were a treat? BLEACHK!
Anyhow, he’s completely healthy and right on target with all of his developmental abilities. 🙂
He got 1 vaccination today, the HiB. I had planned to get it for him at his 18-month check-up, but they were out of stock. My belief now regarding vaccinations is that most of them he will need to get becaues of school purposes (although some states allow parents to get exceptions based on religious or philosophical reasons). But in Maryland, I think we only have religious exceptions, and since we aren’t religious…… Well, I’m sure he will have to get most vaccs before starting school. But now I only allow him to get 1 shot at a time. Eventually he will need to get the Hep A vaccination, since we will (at some point) travel to Ghana. But it’s crazy to me that dr. office want to vacc ALL kids with Hep A. They only really need it if they are traveling over-seas. Same with Hep B vaccination given immediately after birth before leaving the hospital. Unless my infant is having sex or doing drugs (ridiculous), there’s no point. I know that is something we will not be doing with baby #2.
Oh, and we won’t be getting the chicken pox vaccination. We’ll test his titers before he starts school.
Anyhow, I got sidetracked on a tangent…..
Kwabi did well with the shot and finger prick (i.e. iron testing)! He only cried out for a couple seconds with the vaccination. I just told him, “Look! The dr. is tickling you!” LOL…..It worked! (Kids fall for the craziest things…..). Afterwards, he couldn’t wait to get a lollipop and sticker!
I had asked him what color lollipop he would want to get when he was done, and he said, “Brown.” Sure enough, that is all they had–rootbeer! LOL 🙂
