Do I love rap? Definitely. Do I love R&B? You betcha. I even love pop…alternative (I’m absolutely in love with Coldplay and The Fray)…and new age music. But country music??? The closest to country music that I’ve ever even touched has been Faith Hill and Shania Twain, which both walk a fine line between country music and pop music. Oh, and maybe a drop of Carrie Underwood…
So imagine my surprise today when an Overstock.com commercial came on, featuring a man and woman (named Joey and Rory) singing a country love song, and Kwabena, who had been playing on the floor, engrossed in his beloved “choo-choo” trains, dropped what he was doing and stood up to the television, mesmerized. Kwabena does this really cute, but sad, thing when he hears music that is what I call “soul-touching;” he sort of whimpers like a puppy. He does it every time he hears emotionally-charged music.
So there we sat, continuously rewinding the DVR for the sweet seconds of that lovely song. Who would have known that Kwabena (or me!!) would be so moved by a country song. But that commercial is so beautiful!
Anyhow, I went online to see if this “Joey and Rory” are real people, or just some amazing singers hired to do a 30-second commercial. Nope, they’re real! I can’t tell whether or not the song in the commercial is an actual song or not. However, I did hear another song they have done called “Cheater, Cheater!” OMG….love the part when Joey sings….” Cheater, cheater, where’d you meet that no good white trash ho?” Hmmm……country music sounds pretty hip to me! LOL….Could we have started a new trend in the Appiah household…..??? Hmmmm……
