Glucose Testing

September 24, 2009 By Serena Leave a Comment

This morning I had my second 1-hour glucose test at the OB office. I passed the previous one done weeks ago. Even though they say you can have breakfast, I had something really light that morning. Maybe a piece of toast and something to drink?? I can’t quite remember. But this time around, I had my usual small bowl of cereal (Special K Red Berries), with soymilk, and then, stupidly, made fried apples with cinnamon, a little sugar, and butter. UGH……Some lady in my office gave me the BEST damn apples I had ever tasted, and recommended I prepare them this way, as she does for her 5-year-old daughter. Kwabena didn’t even like them! Why did I have to pick this morning to fry them?

After I ate, dropped Kwabena off, etc., arrived for my appointment to drink my Glucola drink, my sugar was still high at 110. That, on top of drinking pure glucose, then waiting to see what my sugar would be, didn’t take a moron to figure that it would be higher than normal. And it was. It was right at the 140 level. I kept using my glucometer to test, and I was hovering around 134…138…..It has to be under 140 to be considered “normal” (thus, not having to do the 3-hr glucose test).

I had even told the nurse about eating so late, and she said it didn’t matter. I think otherwise. I told the dr. about it all and she said that I should have said something so that maybe I could have done the test some other time. Guess the nurses felt differently. Anyhow, if I fail this 1-hr test, then I may have to do the 3-hr test, or another option could be to just start using my glucometer and start testing my fasting sugars (which are normal), and testing my 1-hr post-prandial sugar values to make sure they’re normal.

We shall see. 🙂 Let’s hope I made the cut-off! 🙂
