Thanksgiving is so overrated. I just tend to feel that way about holidays in general, especially when I think about why we do the traditions that we do. But regardless of whether I feel that way about holidays, I do love this time of the year; people spend more time with families, and life just seems more relaxed and less stressed.
Previous Thanksgivings, Kwasi and I have traveled–off to Ghana or London, or some other cool place, instead of heading doing the traditional celebrations. Recently our tradition on Thanksgiving has been to go to Soul Vegetarian, a tasty hole-in-the-wall in D.C. where we pile up our take-our Styrofoam with BBQ tofu, vegan mac-and-cheese, sweet potatoes good enough to melt in your mouth….Ahhhh….and what’s what we’re doing this year, too.
Anyhow, we started the day off with a 2.5 hour walk through the park. I’m shocked that Kwabena ran nearly the whole way!! Of course I had my camera aimed and ready (see pics HERE) because you know what a stalker I am when it comes to taking pics. The sky was so gorgeous blue, the air was crisp and sharp, and I couldn’t have been happier to spend this day with my two most favorite people in the world.
Lately I have been letting Kwabena use our camera. Not sure if it’s a good move, since he ruined my last one (he WAS much younger than). But he’s really enjoyed taking pictures lately, and I do have to say, he’s become quite good!
Anyhow, on the way home from the walk, Kwabena fell asleep in the stroller. We put him down for a nap, made ourselves some lunch, and I made chocolate-covered strawberries. YUM!
Later we shall go for our take-out…then head by Kwasi’s mom’s house for a little family time there…
And that’s how we have, and will, spend our Thanksgiving!
