KOJO

August 26, 2011 By Serena Leave a Comment

Me at 27 weeks pregnant!

Well…..we don’t even know if this new baby’s name is going to be “Kojo” or not, but for some reason, it seems fitting 🙂 And I like it. What I don’t like, however, is when I tell people his name and they instantly comment on how it sounds like “Kujo,” the old Stephen King movie about a vicious dog. Grrrr……It’s not KUJO, people, it’s Ko-JO. The accent is on the end part, and those are “O”s. Anyhow, it’s a tough-sounding name, and I like that I could nickname him my Little Jojo. 🙂

But, we’ll see what name this little guy ends up with! Kwasi, while in Ghana, asked me if we could name him “Nana Kwaku.” HELLLLL no! Kwabena was born on a Wednesday (which is officially what “Kwaku” means, and because of that and my disdain for a name that sounds like a bird call, that is why I agreed to “Kwabena,” which was the other alternative, for naming after Kwasi’s dad).

I also like the name Kofi. I could see him named Kofi, as well, but Kwasi’s brother, Kofi, would never let us forget THAT……. (can we say, conceited??). LOL

The pregnancy is going just fine! I’m now 28 weeks as of tomorrow! Only 14 more to go!! (Or less, if I deliver at 37 weeks, but considering my M.O. of delivering on my due date, I am doubtful I have less than 14 weeks). I have gained a whopping 30 lbs. Of course, that was a couple weeks ago that I weighed myself. I probably have creeped up even more since then!

Food has become my love! You name it– butter pecan ice cream (oh, and it has to be the Breyer’s All Natural kind!), mint chocolate chip ice cream, lollipops, caramel cremes, Laffy Taffy (as of lately!), Rolo candy, peanut butter filled pretzels, chips…..I mean, you name it, I will eat it. LOL

Kwasi’s even been telling me to “slow down.” Yeah, the fat on my ass and my back are really not attractive. But, hey, if this is going to be my last pregnancy, I gotta enjoy it! Whenever else will I ever allow myself to indulge like this??

This little guy is so laid back! I compare him and his movements to Kwabena and Ohene, and it’s clear that Kwabena was the most active baby out of the three pregnancies/kids. And sure enough, Kwabena is the most active. Ohene is very laid back and not overly active (but not lazy, either). And this baby is going to be super calm. I hope!!

It wasn’t but a mere few weeks ago that I really started to feel him moving! I mean, I could feel him, but feeling the movements externally weren’t really all that noticeable. Now, however, I feel him more frequently. There’ve been a couple times that I have felt noticeable hard body parts just poking out near my belly button, and it’s so weird and cool at the same time! I also feel his occasional hiccups 🙂

The dr. that I saw last appointment thinks that he’s curled up with his spine to my spine, because she couldn’t feel any major thickness throughout my belly; no body parts just sitting there. I remember feeling that with Ohene. But not this time! I think he’s pretty much tucked away back there!

I’ve been spending the last couple days researching carseats and wondering how we’re going to put 3 kids in the back seat of our cars. I’ve got a 2006 Honda Accord, and it’s not very wide back there. It’s much cheaper to buy car seats instead of a new car, so that is what I will attempt to do first! And eventually we’ll put a new minivan on our lists of things “to buy.” Maybe once tax time comes around or something. We’ll see. I just hate the thought of having another car payment, when we really can’t afford it. If we could eliminate some expenses so that Kwasi wouldn’t have to work weekends, THAT is what we should do! More family time….yes!

This baby is going to get some new things! I have bought so many used things over the course of my pregnancies– from clothes, to baby items, to this….to that…..And this baby surely can use some used stuff. But we also need to get some new things for him. I’m going to buy a new swing because the one that Kwabena and Ohene used got thrown out with the move. It was already years old once Kwabena used it (it was Camryn’s when she was a baby), and so, hell, by now, that things was horrendous. LOL. I’m probably going to get him a new carseat, too. I think the one that Kwabena and Ohene used is expired. I have to do some research on why expired carseats are NOT recommended. But yeah, I think we’ll have to buy a new one. That’s okay. Because the one I am planning to buy is going to be much slimmer and will work better for my car.

I’m now starting my bi-weekly drs. appointments!! I went last week, had this week off, and will go next week, at 28 weeks. I think then it will follow: 30 weeks, 32 weeks, and 34 weeks. And perhaps, 36 weeks. Then maybe weekly. Or maybe the weekly appointments start sooner. We’ll see.

I’ve been having some foot pain, too, in the left ball of my foot. About a week ago, it was so bad I could barely walk; I was limping and had to walk on the outside edge of my foot, which then made THAT part hurt, and caused pain up my lower leg. But miraculously, he subsided. I still feel it, but not that much to cause limping or any other pain.

I’m feeling excited about having another baby! Honestly, these kids are so freakin’ cute, that it makes me so thankful that we’ll have one more to get to experience all these fun things with– labor and delivery……..first smiles, first laughs….his cute little baby body….his cute little precious toes….and his baby cries……I’m really looking forward to it! I’m a little freaked out over having to go through labor and delivery AGAIN, but it’s such a special time, that I think I can look past THAT part and see it for what it truly is– another baby joining our family!

I also wonder about how to coordinate 3 kids…..especially on the weekends when Kwasi goes to work, just getting out of the house and being able to handle Ohene, too, who’s still so young and baby-ish himself. He’ll still be so needy at 2 years old. Well, at 23 months!! But I’m sure we will handle it just fine. I am even trying to train Kwabena a little bit to help Ohene more, and to help himself more, like getting his own bowl of cereal, and getting a bowl of cereal for Ohene, too. Those things will come in handy when I am feeding the baby and can’t really tend to everyone at the same time.

So I have 85 days to go!! That’s less than 3 months!! Unbelievable! And so exciting!

And I can’t wait to see who Kojo looks like! From his ultrasound pictures last time, he reminds me of a mix between Kwabena and Ohene. He’s got Kwabena’s bigger, rounder forehead, and a deeper bridge of his nose. But I think he’s got my nose, which is what Ohene has. And I think he’s got thinner lips than Kwabena. I wonder what complexion he’ll be? Exciting! Wouldn’t it be cool to have a mix of Kwabena and Ohene?

So there you have it! That’s what has been going on with Kojo and me!
