OHENE

August 26, 2011 By Serena Leave a Comment

Oh, my sweet little Henny-Poo, so cute and compassionate (Miss Marilyn says she loves how compassionate he is with the others when they go into time out, and how he likes to give hugs). My sweet boy who can turn quite mean in the blink of an eye if things aren’t going his way! LOL Ohene is notorious for throwing something across the room if you are trying to take it away from him. And he will put a hand up in your face and furrow his brows and spit out unintelligible curses to you. LOL!!! The other day he was jealous that Kwabena was standing on the chair getting love from Mommy (after I had just put Ohene down), and so he was standing there at my legs, whining for me, and then just decided he would get mad and try to pull Kwabena down off the chair!!

Crazy kid…….

Ohene is very adorable, though, and has such a funny personality. He’s very light-hearted. And he’s such a good helper. He likes to help clean (or at least pretend to help). And he loves art! He will go and pull out the paints and the brushes and ask to paint, and is so proud of what he does, that he comes and shows me 🙂

I’ve been working with him on counting, but wasn’t feeling like he was getting any more than “one.” But this morning when Kwasi was reading the butterfly book to him (well, not reading, but more like counting the butterflies), Ohene was counting some along with him! Kwasi would say, “….Four….” and Ohene would say, “…..Five….” So, he’s definitely getting it! I try to incorporate numberes into some things, like tickling him, or pushing him on the swing. I’ll say, “One, two, three, I know what I see…..A fuzzy little bumble bee….One….Two….THREE!!” and then I would start buzzing and tickle him. He loves it 🙂 And if I push him on the swing, I count to three before pushing him.

As for colors, he’s learning! This morning he and Kwabena were playing with the abacuss on the floor and I asked Ohene to point out the yellow, and he did. And then the blue, and he pointed that out, too! So he is definitely learning!!! I was worried that he would be behind Kwabena, because I would always say, “Well, Kwabena was counting to 13 after just turning 2! Ohene is nowhere near that!” But even if that’s true, I need to stop comparing and just let Ohene progress at his own pace. He will get it, and he may even get it before Kwabena did. You can never tell!

Ohene is still sleeping with us, but soon, I am going to get him a bed and move him in the room with Kwabena. Miss Marilyn brought up a good point, that having Kwabena in a room of his own is best because it’s less distraction now that he’s going to school and all. But the more I thought about it, I want them together so that I can possibly have the baby in the smaller room. Plus, it might be easier to transition Ohene if he knows he’s got Brother right there in the room with him, versus needing one of us with him.

Ohene still calls me “Mah-ee” instead of “Mommy.” LOL At one point, he was calling me “Mahn-ee”, with the “n.” Oh well….it’s cute! At least he’s calling me SOMETHING! He’s even been saying his own name when you ask him what his name is. He puts his hand on his chest or belly and says, “Hene.” So cute!!!!

So that’s what is going on with my little Henny-Poo!
