My first born is starting school! Unbelievable! I’m very excited about it. I think he’s looking forward to it, too. But in the class today, we saw a question on the board, “Are you excited about starting school?” And the kids will be able to pick, “Yes,” “No,” and “Maybe.” I asked Kwabena what his answer was, and he said, “MAYBE.” LOL…..Awwww…I know it is a whole new experience, and he doesn’t really know what to expect, even with all the Open House stuff, etc. He’ll adjust quickly, though. He always does!
His behavior lately, though, has been so challenging. Annoying, actually. And I feel guilty for admitting that my child can annoy the shit out of me, but it’s true! And after talking to other parents, you realize that it’s just normal, especially for this age! They still have tantrums, lack listening skills, and just irritate you with childlike behavior. We just have to be patient!
Kwabena’s been squinting some lately, and I don’t know if it’s because he may need glasses, or if it’s light sensitivity or what. Even Miss Marilyn noticed. I even noticed in some of his Ghana pictures that he appeared a bit squinty. Now that I am thinking of it, it could very well be the Malarone anti-malaria meds he’s taking. I wonder if it causes light sensitivity? I’ll have to research that. I wonder if it affects his eyes in some way? He’s almost done the course of meds, so we shall see. He is scheduled for an eye exam for Sept. 3rd, though. I had forgotten that he needs to get that done, anyhow. It would be his first eye exam.
Kwabena is doing well, overall. He’s such an intelligent boy! The other day he received a post card from his teacher, Mrs. Garner, and he was able to read the whole thing by himself! He’s so smart! I’m still shocked that he is reading at age 5. For just having TURNED age 5, really! And he’s been reading for some time, since somewhere around age 4 or so. He’s so intelligent!
He loves watching TV. He would lay there all day and watch it if you allowed him to! I think I will have to use it as a reward system to get him to do his homework and other chores (well, when I come UP with some chores for him to do, that is….).
He’s so creative! This morning as I packed lunch, he was playing with Legos and made a “Wall-E”-like figure with the Legos….then he made a duck….and then started adding more stuff on to it. It was really nice seeing him engaged with the activity!
He loves his Mommy so much. Kwasi gets offended and pissed, I think, when Kwabena shows a preference for me over him. Well, not so much a preference, but like today when Kwasi wanted Kwabena to hold his hand, he didn’t want to; he wanted to hold mine. That annoyed Kwasi. Hell, even Ohene didn’t want Kwasi to hold him; he wanted Mommy to hold him! And that bothered him, because you could see the frustration when he took Ohene from me and said that HE was going to put Ohene in the car. SIGH……I mean, a dad just can’t compete with Mommy. Sorry!
Let’s see….what else about Kwabena…..He’s been acting really shy lately around adults. At daycare when they go to drop Ohene off or pick him up, Miss Marilyn’s been wanting Kwabena to come to her so she can tell him words of encouragement about Kindergarten and such, and he hides behind Kwasi and acts very shy. Unlike him, she says. I think he’s just getting used to being around them again. He’d been gone for a while, to a whole separate country. I think Ghana changed him a little, and I can’t say it’s been for the best, really. Not the worse, but definitely not the best that people were saying would have happened.
Kwabena also likes to play with his brother, but he also likes to bully him, too, which I guess is normal. Not acceptable, but normal. He’ll do things like take whatever Ohene is playing with and want to play with it himself, or just take it away and throw it across the room and thinks it’s funny when Ohene fusses and wails about it. Even so, they enjoy walking/running around in the circle of our house (i.e. kitchen-foyer-living room-dining room-and-around). The other day, Kwabena was holding on to the front part of some charger cord, and Ohene was holding the back part, and around….and around…and around…they went, Big Brother leading Little Brother. It was so cute!
And then the wrestling…..too cute! Ohene loves to climb all over Kwabena 🙂
So there you have it! That’s what Kwabena’s been up to!
