Kwabi-isms

January 13, 2009 By Serena Leave a Comment

Man, I know I say it all the time, but this is one funny kid…..or else I am just partial because I think my child is wonderful, bright, humorous…..who knows. But here are some of the funny or interesting or smart things he has said to me recently….And just some basic stuff about Mr. Appiah.

First, I should give the update on his new bed. No falls (yet??)! YAY! I have taught Kwabena the rules of his bed. And because he’s such an obedient child, he knows how to recite them to me:

1) No jumping
2) No standing
3) You must climb down the ladder backwards, holding the rail
4) No playing on the ladder

I also told him that if he wakes in the middle of the night, he needs to call out, “Mommy, I need you!” instead of getting out of his bed. And sure enough, he cries out for me when necessary. Whew!

Anyhow, some funny, interesting stuff; and just stuff in general about us:

  • Kwabena says his favorite stores are Target (“I like to look at toys!”) and the store that sells the Nerds candy (Dollar Tree). LOL
  • One day Kwabena said to me, “Mommy, you’re SUPPOSED to play with me on the sofa!” Umm….excuse me?? Since when does my son know the words “supposed to” and know how to use it in a sentence? Too funny!
  • I’m actually working with Kwabena to learn my phone number. One day he shocked me when I was about to tell someone my phone number and I said the area code…..and he filled in the next 3 numbers! Shocking! So I decided that since he’s so smart and able to remember, I made up a little jingle that goes,

When you want to call Mommy,
What do you do,
You dial #-#-#
#-#-2…….
Then you dial #-#-#-3
That’s how you can call me and Daddy!

Of course, I can’t post my phone number on here for the world to see. LOL. But you get the point. He remembers the first 6 digits, and sort of jumbles the last 4 digits. After he gets the jingle, I’m going to help him figure out how to dial it. Even if he doesn’t know, if he could sing the jingle for someone if he’s lost, then hey–whatever works, right??

  • Last night Kwabena wanted some plaintains. He asked, “Mommy, put a couple on my plate.” I responded, “A couple?? How do you know what a couple is? Do you know?” And he responded, “Two!”
  • This weekend Kwabena was in the bathroom pooping on the toilet, and I was trying to have a conversation with him about what our plans were for the day. He interrupted and said, “Mommy, I can’t talk to you, I’m pooping!” Oh, well, exccccuuuseee me! LOL
  • I needed to pee (sorry tmi!) at the same time that Kwabena was using the big toilet. He was so sweet when he offered, “You can use my potty.” Awwww…..I had to explain to him that Mommy’s butt was just a tad too big. 🙂
  • This weekend we were in a location where Kwasi wasn’t near a bathroom, so he started to walk to find a place to pee (sorry tmi, Kwasi, but I have to include this here!). Kwabena kept asking, “Where Daddy going?” I tried to ignore his question. After all, I don’t want Kwabena to think he can pee outside whenever he feels like it. LOL. But after several questions, I finally said that Daddy was going to find a place to pee. Kwabena responded, “I hope Daddy not peeing in the grass! That’s gross!” Tripped me out!!!! HAHAHHA

Ahhh…..my little guy……

  • Kwabena’s favorite book right now is The Berenstain Bears’ Big Road Race. Loves it! We read it so often that he knows the words so I let him fill in parts so that we’re reading it together 🙂
  • Last night Kwabena said, “I want cold pizza for dinner!” Well, the Papa John’s pizza was all gone. We finished it this weekend. So I was at a loss, until I got the idea of making him a cold “mini” pizza. Basically took some cold spaghetti sauce and topped it on some whole wheat bread with shredded cheese. That was that. No baking. No heat. No cooking. Just gave it to him in two pieces. I turned around and Kwabena had squashed one on top of the other and said, “Look, Mommy, I made a sandwich!” So Kwabena devoured a homemade cold “pizza sandwich”. LOL. And wouldn’t you know that I packed him two for lunch today? HA! I’m sure Miss Marilyn thought I was crazy. LOL

Stay tuned for more Kwabi-isms! 😉
