Okay, so I know there is only 1.5 hours left of Christmas Day and I am just getting here to say “Merry Christmas” and “Happy Holidays” to everyone. It’s been a short day, actually. Kwabena and I just got back from Hagerstown a bit ago. We had a great day! We arrived into Hagerstown yesterday evening about 6 p.m. (I just can never leave the house on time…); spent the night (ugh, I was very uncomfortable on the blow-up mattress!); opened presents with my mom, sis, niece, and nephew; and spent the time playing with the kids and just relaxing. It was a day well spent!
Mom loved the poem I wrote her! I had framed it, as well. Here’s the poem I gave her. She loved it so much she was about to tear up! 🙂 You see…..these are the gifts that people remember–the ones that come from the heart:
When one’s child becomes a parent,
It opens up many memories and doors,
Thoughts, feelings, and gratitude,
Surface that were never present before.
Reflections ensue,
And “ah ha” moments come to light,
Such as the endless depth of unconditional parental love,
And the tireless effort to always do right.
Like when rations are tight,
But leaving nothing for yourself,
Ensuring your child’s belly is warm and full,
Because the importance is on their life and health.
Like respecting your child to make,
Decisions on their own,
And reinforcing and encouraging them that,
Their life should always set its own tone.
These are the things you did for me,
And the things, for my own, I will do.
There’s nothing as great as the unbounded love of parenting,
And for that, and everything, I say, “Thank You.”

I also had framed some head-shots of Kwabena, Camryn (my 5-year-old niece), and Trey (my 13-year-old nephew).
And just to prove how much of a crazy-ass I am (oh, my, Kwabena is going to be one silly kid if he takes after me…..), I framed some ridiculously silly pictures of me, Trey, and Camryn that we had taken one day back in July when we were snapping ugly pictures of ourselves and laughing our butts off about it. I decided it would be fun to frame these, so that we can reminisce on how crazy we really are. LMFAO!
Kwabena had got a lot more gifts that I thought he would be getting. I had bought him a couple Cars Movie die cast cars (Ramon and Doc, the Hudson Hornet), along with a set of Match Box racecars. I also bought him a Jeremy the Airplane Thomas character. Bee, my sister, bought him the Thomas charachter, Edward, along with a take-along track set. I also bought Kwabena a Spider Man transformer (man…am I a moron or what?? I couldn’t figure out how to change it from a motorcycle into Spiderman!). That’s the extent of what I bought him. Mom bought him a Cars Movie race set, which he loved, and some Thomas pajamas. He did get a lot more stuff thatn I realized. It was a bit overwhelming, because he didn’t know what to play with first. At some point, he ended up over in Trey’s basket of toys, playing with the wrestlers. LOL. Oh, and he took a fond liking to the FurReal cat that Camryn got! He kept sticking his finger in the mouth, and carrying the cat from room to room. Talk about “fur real.” The damn thing shed all over the house!! Was just a reminder as to why we don’t have any animals. LOLI love what Mom bought me. She got me a Moms Organizer (Lord knows I am working on being more organized for this year!), and she bought me a scrapbook for me to print off all my blog entries and put them in the scrapbook. GREAT idea….because as you can see, I tend to blog a LOT. Well, in general, I have kept a journal since age 15, and writing and documenting my life and thoughts is very important to me. So, to have a place to now physically print them out and keep it for, perhaps, Kwabena to one day read, is a wonderful gift. 🙂
Anyhow, we had a good day…..any day with your family is a day to be celebrated and cherished! 🙂
P.S. Mom told Trey about Santa!!!! He was a little disappointed, but it was time for him to know, him being 13-years-old and all. He did make a comment about how he was embarrassed, since last year at the age of 12 he actually sat on Santa’s lap (this year he knelt down). He made another comment about how they (Mom and sis) had SWORN to him that Santa was real. (And I couldn’t help but want to say, “See!!!”) Point here is this: Okay, so you want to tell your kids about Santa. Fine. But when they start questioning, please don’t lie to your kids (i.e. swear to them) that Santa is real. There are ways to break it to them easily. Because, believe me, they WILL remember that you lied to them when they were asking you for the truth.
