Open Houses

July 15, 2010 By Serena Leave a Comment

This past weekend was totally hectic. Not only did I have an Open House in Hagerstown to get renters for our townhouse, but we also had an Open House for the condo. Both yielded mediocre results. First of all, I ended up having to drive to Hagerstown on Saturday to show the townhome to a couple that was interested that was only going to be in town for one day. I hadn’t planned to drive to Hagerstown because I had planned to get all the last minute things done for the condo Open House. Instead, I found myself in Hagerstown, showing the property to people who ended up not even contacting me back. And the second I got home, I began cleaning carpets and last minute items that needed to be done before the following day.

Then, on Sunday, I rushed around all morning trying to finish up last things before having to leave for the Hagerstown Open House, while making sure that the place was in prime condition for when my agent arrived that afternoon for the condo Open House.

I didn’t like the person that I turned into that day! Yikes! The poor kids got the brunt of my frustration and stress. I ran around the place with paint brushes in my hand, mops in my hand, towels in my hand…..And the baby just fussed and fussed because he was sleepy and wanted me to hold him. Poor Kwabena would tell me something innocent about some toy of something, and I would bark at him. NOT good, and NOT me. Stupid me for having two Open Houses on the same day. But, we need to get a renter for this Hagerstown property, so what can we do??

There was a renter that I thought was a good candidate who showed at the Open House, but after she turned in the application and fee on the spot, I haven’t been able to get in contact with her (via email) for the additional information I need. A couple people came last night to look at the place; one girl wants to apply and has sent the necessary info, yet she needs to pay the $35 application fee still. And the other guy, who seemed like a good fit, said that he and his wife are going to decline from applying because they don’t think they’ve financially be able to come up with the security deposit and first month’s rent by Aug. 1st. I’m actually trying to find out if they would be interested in pushing back the move-in date until Sept. 1st. We’ll see what they have to say….

Tomorrow someone is coming to look at the townhouse, so we’ll see how she turns out. Looks promising.

As for the condo Open House, no real bites. However, there is someone that is scheduled to come look at the place on Saturday at 11 a.m. I am hoping they make an offer!

I’m excited to get out there and start looking for homes. I want a nice backyard! And I understand that our new house is not going to be our dream house; we’re going to have to put a little work into it. As long as it’s move-in ready, we can work on sprucing it up over time.
