Sweet Boys

February 25, 2011 By Serena Leave a Comment

My boys are so sweet. Okay–well, Kwabena isn’t really sweet anymore. LOL He’s too much on the go, too much of a non-listener, and doesn’t like to cuddle much, so I can’t say he’s SWEET, per se. But he sure is cute as hell, especially with his new haircut (which I haven’t uploaded pics of yet!). Ohene is my sweet one. Kwabena is my spirited one. LOL. But really, both are great kids!

I was telling him the other day that I lost weight (5 pounds so far, with 5-10 more to go!), that Mommy is going to be healthy. Kwabena agreed matter-of-factly, “Yeah, Mommy, because I don’t want your squishy belly anymore. I don’t want you to die. ” LOL. Then I tried to explain to him that Mommy is going to try to live for a very long time, and that we need to make sure Daddy is losing weight so HE can live for a long time, too. 🙂

Ohene is doing really good, too. OMG, he truly is my sweet boy. I haven’t ever met another sweet child like him. All he likes to do is hug Kwabena, and sometimes me. But Kwabena, it’s like he idolizes him. It’s so cute! Last weekend I took my laptop to the Apple store for a new battery, and Kwabena entertained himself on the kids’ computers, while I kept Ohene with me at the counter. The minute I put Ohene down, after having been out of his stroller for a little while, he toddles over to Kwabena, who was very engrossed in his video game, and he just started hugging all over Kwabena! It’s so sweet. It’s like he must greet Kwabena with a hug anytime they have been apart for a little while. I’m glad they aren’t the kind of siblings that tear each other’s hair out. I doubt they ever will be. Ohene’s too sweet for that, and really, Kwabena’s not that kind of brother. He really loves Ohene, too.

Kwabena’s doing excellent at Miss Marilyn’s. But a conversation with a friend of mine (Morning!) the other day made me realize that, you know, it probably would have been a good idea to get him enrolled in a real preschool program this year, before Kingergarten. He’s a really smart boy, who needs lots to do, and likes to learn new things, and is at the age where he doesn’t really want to be taking naps, etc. I think he would have thrived at a preschool program. But, it’s sort of too late. School starts in about 5 months! Holy shit…..Wow…5 months. Anyhow, yeah, like I was saying, school starts soon, so no need to pull him out of what he knows, when Kingergarten will be another adjustment.

Speaking of which, I need to call the school and find out why the registration info never arrived. I still can’t believe I’m registering him for school!

As for schoolwork, he’s doing very well, although he needs more practice with writing his numbers, which he has just started to write some of them backwards. So we’re working on it at home.

Ohene is doing great, too. He and I love to play this game where I steal his paci (a.k.a. “papi”) and I put it in my mouth and say, “MY papi!” He will laugh and then grab it back and you hear him trying to say “My papi” but it comes out something like “mesbagr pepe.” LOL The first part is unintelligible, but the second part comes out “pepe.” So cute! He’s also saying Da and hot. He is like Kwabena in that he doesn’t say a lot of words yet, but he sure does talk and tells us things, and points while telling us something in only a language he can understand.

Kwasi is doing okay. I just bought him and I a 1-hour package to a shooting range!! WOOT! Not sure when we’re going to redeem it, but sometime soon. I think Kofi, his brother, is going to come along. Just a couple weeks ago Kwasi was saying how he wanted to go to a shooting range. How cool will THAT be?! I’ve never shot, or even held, a gun.

I’ve been writing a lot of poetry lately. In fact, I did an Open Mic poetry session this past Tuesday, which was a lot of fun! My friends Lamarr and Hakimah were supposed to come, but at the last minute, they ditched me, so I went dolo. Oh well, that’s how I roll. 🙂 I’m definitely doing it again soon!!!!

I’ve also applied for a new job, still with the same contracting company, but it will be with another department. This department is going to be under another contractor, probably, so instead of taking the chance and risking whatever a new contractor could mean in terms of benefits and what-not, I decided to apply for other jobs. I had an interview with the Center for Health Disparities, and I am waiting for them to make a decision. I think the jobs sounds interesting, and it will be more overseeing of their weight-loss management study. I have no clue how much the job will pay, but I guess they will present an offer when offering me the position, if that’s what they are planning to do. We shall see!

The house is coming along okay, but it’s hard finding the time to get it all done. There are still painting projects to get done, too. And we’re dealing with some musty smell in the house that we’ve never been able to get rid of. We think we’ve located what could be the problem in the basement, and hopefully that will rid the house of the smell. Otherwise, the house is great, and I love the space and the backyard (well, the times we’ve been able to use it, considering the weather!).

Not really much else going on right now, personally! More later!
