The Magic of Motherhood

August 5, 2008 By Serena Leave a Comment

I know it sounds quite trite to say that you never know what true love is until you have a child, but it’s true. As much as you love your family, your siblings, your husband…. there’s nothing like the love you have for your child(ren).

Every night when I get home from work, I look forward to seeing Kwabena’s beautiful smile, hear his enthusiastic, “Hi, Mommy!”, the magical sound of his voice when he exclaims, “Yes!” when I ask him if he was a good boy at daycare.

Tonight when I got home, Kwasi had taken Kwabi out for a walk. I went outside to meet them, and then we double-backed for another lap. I saw them headed towards me on the sidewalk: Kwasi pushing Kwabena on his little yellow tricycle; Kwabi’s feet planted on the petals, turning around and around for the first time, finally understanding he had to leave them on there in order to simulate pedaling while Daddy pushed.

He looked absolutely stunning to me in his cool new Thomas & Friends sunglasses, rocking his new red and white plaid shirt that I just bought him yesterday on our stop into Rockville. His blond curly hair stood in neat ringlets.

I felt blessed to have such a great family.

I told Kwasi that he’s such a good dad. I never grew up with a dad; in fact, I come from a family riddled with single moms that made poor choices for baby-daddies. So for me to see my loving husand pushing his son on his trike on a gorgeous August day (low humidity today!), it was a wonderful sight and feeling. 🙂

We came home and had a great family dinner (we’ve been trying to do more of that recently instead of plopping down in front of the tv with Kwabena running around with mouthfuls of food). We had avocado, tortellini pasta from Trader Joe’s (6 minutes to make!!), sweeter-than-candy strawberries, and hot piping buttered french bread. Hmmm…..We all gobbled it up, even Kwabi!

Oh, and to top it all off, I made homemade chocolate-covered sweet strawberries.

Does life get any better than this?

🙂
