This past weekend we went to the wedding of the daughter of Kwasi’s family friend, in NY. It was actually a nice getaway! Kwasi’s brother, Kofi, rented a Ford Explorer and him, Kwasi, me, the kids, and Kwasi’s mom all packed that truck to the MAX and drove up to NY. I am actually considering that our next vehicle should be a truck of some sort. We need the space. My car (Honda Accord) is just about paid off in a couple months, and soon, Kwasi will need to upgrade his older model Nissan Maxima.
So we left on Friday afternoon. The boys did great! Ohene slept a lot of the way, and Kwabena watched Toy Story on my iPod. And lucky me got in some good reading. Some girls from my office started a book club and for our first selection we chose The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It was a slow start for the first couple chapters, but one third of the way done at this point and I’m hooked. Can’t wait to find out what happens!
Anyhow, we had booked a hotel on our own, but some other family friend’s of Kwasi’s mom had already booked us a hotel near La Guardia, so we canceled our hotel and stayed for FREE (well, free for us, since they picked up the tab). Awesome deal 🙂
Saturday we rose early, dressed in our bed wear (Kwabena and Ohene looked so cute in their outfits!), and then headed to the wedding at 11:30 a.m. Kwabena couldn’t sit still, of course, through the ceremony. And I didn’t even get to hear the “I do’s” because Ohene was squirming and wanted to eat. So there I stood in the bathroom stall nursing him during the climax of the ceremony. Oh well….
We were all looking so nice, I was hoping to get some nice family shots of us, but everyone doesn’t value pictures the way I do, and so the pics I did get are very disjointed; not even a nice one of me, Kwasi, and the kids.
I once heard someone joke that pictures are for people with poor memories. That is me! The more pics I take, the more clearly my memories are when I think about an event. My poor memory…..
Anyhow, after the ceremony we had appetizers, which were super yummy–cheeses, eggplant Parmesan, open bar….. Then we all headed upstairs for the main dinner. Kwabena wanted to start dancing immediately and went right to the middle of the floor and started throwin’ down before everyone even found their seats! It was too funny how he had pulled out his Spiderman glasses and tossed them on to complete his “cool” look when he started dancing. He’s so funny 🙂
That boy literally danced for 5 hours straight–I kid you not. He had so much energy that people were taking videos of him, and pictures. Even the professional photographer and videographer were taking pics and video of him. How could they not?? He was the star of the night, it seemed!
Kofi wasn’t too impressed with Kwabena behavior; in fact, he kept commenting on how Kwabena’s behavior was unacceptable and not normal. I, on the other hand, think that his behavior was fine. So the kid loves to dance and move! He’s always been this way. I remember a year and a half ago when we were at a birthday party for a kid that my friend Morning had to help out with. Kwabena was the same way, the way he danced, that is. He loves music, loves to move, and so what if he dances like he’s at a rave. That’s my boy!
I do want to get him involved in some dance classes. If he loves to dance so much, why not channel that energy? He’s definitely getting involved in some sports, too. He has too much energy NOT to have him involved in things like that. The only problem is that it seems a lot of the sports and such you have to be 4 years old. Maybe I just haven’t found the right programs yet that take them at 3 year old. I’m going to keep looking.
Anyhow, after the wedding, of course, exhausted Kwabena fell asleep in the car. And once we were back at the hotel, everyone but me was fast asleep by 7 p.m. I ended up crashing shortly after. The next day we picked up Kwasi’s mom, who was staying with the family friends, and we had breakfast there, then drove home.
Overall, a great weekend! It felt nice to leave home for a weekend and spend time away, as a family. We should do it more often.
As for other updates……….
Ohene is doing great! OMG, he’s the cutest little baby….. I could just snuggle him all day! He’s got this most beautiful smile and giggle. This weekend, for some reason, he kept laughing when I asked him if he wanted to change into some “comfy clothes.” LOL Must sound funny to his little ears. Oh, and he’s totally rolling over now. The minute I lay him on his tummy, he pushes up and rolls right over. Pretty hilarious! Kwabena and I get a kicked out of him. And tonight he was blowing spit bubbles! Too cute!!!
Well, I would write more, but I can’t. Ohene is waking up, so I must tend to him.
I don’t have time to post a lot of pics here. It’s time consuming. So if you’re interested, check them out on FB for now, until I have time to post here.
