So, it’s not really the weekend, but I’m going to update you about our weekend! This is my new attempt at continuing my blogging/journaling, since I’ve been doing so poorly with it! Since I am at work and don’t have access to my latest pics and stuff, I will have to add those afterwards.
Saturday was a beautiful day! The weather was simply gorgeous, and I loved the fact that we have plans. I just like knowing we’ve got somewhere to go when the day is so pretty. So, Kwabena had a t-ball game on Saturday at noon. They only went through 2 innings, which took the full hour that’s allotted. Kwabena got up to bat twice, and both times, hit the ball on the first try! I was so proud of him!! He actually paid attention well during the times the other teams were up to bat, too. I think it’s hilarious, though, that he seems to think wherever the ball goes, he must follow, regardless of whether he’s playing that position or not. LOL. I think the coach talked to him and by the end of the game, he realized that he needed to stay put unless the ball came in his zone. 🙂
Ohene just loved playing in the dirt and rocks. I always forget to even THINK of bringing toys along with us, like little cars and stuff, so that he would have something to do. But he usually ends up finding stuff to keep him occupied. And he’s a pretty calm kid, so it’s not like having to chase him around the park, thank God. Two super-hyper kids would wear me OUT!
After we left the field, we only had about 1 hour to get to Deserea’s birthday party. Her second daughter was turning a year old. She’s nice enough to keep inviting us to the parties 🙂 I wonder if she ever thinks how we never invite her to parties, because, well, we just haven’t HAD parties, really! This summer, however, Kwabena turns 5 and I would love to throw him a summer party. Because his birthday falls on 4th of July weekend, a lot of people might be away. So I need to start planning asap!! Deserea had one of those bounce things in her backyard, and the kids loved it, and I can imagine it would be a great idea to have something like that for Kwabena’s party!
Even Ohene had a good time in the bounce thing, even though the kids were playing rough in there, boucning against the walls, throwing themselves into it like it was some wrestling match or something! But thankfully, he didn’t get injured!
After we left there, we went to Home Depot and peeked at dehumidifiers. I’m pissed because that $1,500 EZ Breathe system we had installed in the basement when we first moved in (thinking that, since there was no obvious water down there, that we just needed some sort of vent system to move air and make it not smell musty), to help remove the musty odor and to keep humidity levels down, well, it has done neither!! I should have just gotten a damn dehumidifier to begin with 🙁 Anyhow, I am having someone come from the company to inspect the problem and why it’s not doing shit, and if it keeps not doing shit, they’d better uninstall the shit and give us our money back!!!
So, that was our Saturday.
One thing that happened on Saturday that was so endearing was when I asked Kwabena to help Ohene put his sandals on before we went out in the back yard, and I just couldn’t help standing there, watching my beautiful babies– one helping the other. It was a picture moment, honestly 🙂 But the camera wasn’t nearby, and I just wanted to savor the moment. So sweet!!!! Kwabena was even gently saying, “Okay, Ohene, keep your foot still so I can put your shoes on.” And Ohene sat there, letting Kwabena help him. It was so sweet!!!
Sunday I was making plans with the kids, trying to find something fun to do. Butterfly exhibit? (yes, Kwabena wanted to go…..) Andrews AFB air show? (No, Kwabena said the planes were too loud, omg….) Drive to see Nanny? (Me: Nah….too far and gas is precious nowadays, and Kwabena is allergic to their cat so we can’t even go to her house to sit and visit).
It ended up being that we pulled lawn chairs out in the driveway and the kids had a fun time of running their cars down the slope of the driveway! I knew right then and there as I got comfortable, sleepy, and soaking in the sun, that “Nah, we ain’t going NOwhere!” And sure enough, we stayed home. I laid down with Ohene for a while and watched a classicly good movie, “The Sixth Sense” on FX while Ohene sleepily rolled around the bed and I kept hold of his leg and wouldn’t let him get away (I ended up having to wear him out with a little crying and eventually got him to fall asleep in my arms, awwww…..), and while I was doing all this, Kwabena was downstairs watching TV.
I felt bad that he had been on his own for so long, propped up in front of the TV. So I offered to play “War” with him, and it ended up being good times!! Ohene woke up soon (short nap), and we all sat outback with lawn chairs, eating air-popped popcorn dripped in butter and salt, while we used a turned-over toy bucket for the table, playing “War.” Fun times!! Kwasi came home and later we ate baked tofu, mac-n-cheese, and Ohene had peas, out in the backyard at our make-shift table and chairs set-up. So nice, albeit mosquito bites.
For dessert, we munched on Oreos, and then ended up in the yard playing football and soccer.
It was such a nice, relaxing evening! We all agreed that it was something we should do more often–dinner outside! We do need to be some citranella candles, and a better eating arrangement. LOL But we made do with what we had, and it was enjoyable!
I do want, however, to get the two big trees in our backyard thinned and pruned. They are overwhelmingly thick, and keep out much of the sunlight. I absolutely LOVE sunlight, and I can’t bear the darkness, even at 11 a.m.! I am not sure how much this service will cost, but whatever we have to pay to have some sun back in the back of our house again. I didn’t realize it when it was winter, since the leaves weren’t there.
Anyhow, I need to get back to work. I promise for pictures later, to go with the narrative!! 🙂
