13 Weeks!

May 19, 2011 By Serena Leave a Comment

Baby legs! And no, that’s not a penis between the legs; it’s the umbilical cord! I don’t know what’s behind the cord, though. Damn, I have to wait 5 more weeks to find out!

WOW! I’m pregnant with Iron Man! (Or Iron Woman!)

Baby touching their face with their itty-bitty hand. So cute!

So I was sitting here (it’s 11:19 p.m.) and I realized that this poor little baby doesn’t even have a baby book, nor have I blogged much–about him/her, or any other little person in my household! So I better take the next few moments to update you on how everything is going. And if I can get my scanner to work, I’ll upload some pics of Baby Appiah #3!

On Monday I have my first trimester screening ultrasound, where they check the baby for Down’s Syndrome and other abnormalities. Everything looked good! Baby looks healthy! Someone asked me if it’s still as exciting seeing the 3rd baby on ultrasound as it is with the first two, and I would definitely say yes. Just to see that little person in there moving around, moving its hands up to its head, flipping over, is magical! I just wish I had my own little personal ultrasound machine so I could see the baby whenever I wanted to 🙂

I thought we would have our normal perinatologist, but we saw the other doctor. He was very nice (and good-looking, too!). I personally didn’t care for the ultrasound tech that did the first part of the test. Kwasi thinks I was over-reacting, but it would be nice to have someone at least with a friendly bedside manner, instead of someone that was so matter of fact and kept to herself. I mean, this is your baby here! And although I’m sure she sees so many babies in one day, this is MY chance to see MY baby, so liven up a little, lady, and let me appreciate my baby!

I haven’t actually compared pics yet, but I think the baby’s pics look like Ohene’s ultrasound pics. It’s really hard to tell at 13 weeks. Kwabena’s were more pronounced later on; he looked exactly as he does now, thick lips and all! Ohene doesn’t look like his ultrasound pic, though. And this baby looks like it has a pointy chin, like mine. LOL Cute!

My weight is now up to 169 lbs. ***grooooaaannnn**** I have gained about 10 lbs now! I have to find my other baby books so I can see if this is in line with the other weight gains. My eating habits have been much to be desired. I rarely drink water, either. What in the hell is wrong with me? I wouldn’t feel my newborn junk, so why am I eating it NOW? I gotta do better in that department, seriously!

As for names, if it’s a boy, Kwasi wants to name him “Nana Kofi” after his brothers. GAG me. Can we get a little more original, please? And if it’s a girl, he wants to name her exactly after his mom, “Ama Nima.” Um…..why directly after your mom, Kwasi? Yes, you’re African, but I’m American, and I should have some say in this, too. I actually like the name “Nima” (NEE-ma), or rather in his culture, you are to pronounce it nee-MA. But I like NEE-ma better. I would love that for a first name, and then the middle name can be my middle name, “Chandelle” to honor me, since this will more than likely be my only daughter, if it’s a girl. Kwasi commented, however, that we don’t do “European” names in this household. Well, sorry, dear, but you’re married to a biracial American chick, and what I want matters, too, dammit!

Anyhow, we shall see once the gender is confirmed in 5.5 weeks! Come on, already!!!

In other news, the kiddos are doing really well! Ohene, OMG, loves to eat! At Kwasi’s mom’s house, he’ll have a popsicle in his hand and demand some of MINE. And if he’s got some food in his mouth, he wants to shove it in so, I guess, he can really taste it. Oh, and animal cookies?? He’ll have one in his mouth, 2 in his hands, and still be grunting for more, as if he could even hold more!! We are going to have to watch out for him. Since he loves food so much, we have to make sure we’re feeding him good stuff. Just tonight for dinner, I boiled some triangle pasta ravioli, stuffed with spinach, and cut his into small pieces. By the time I sat down to my own meal, he had nearly cleared his plate! Amazing! LOL

Oh, and he’s sooo sweet. His little face is just so kissable. What a gorgeous kid!

Kwabena is doing excellent, too, although he had a couple rough days at daycare earlier this week. I guess he heard Miss Marilyn complimenting his behavior to me, only to think that that was free-range to just do whatever he wanted. I think he’s getting back to normal now, thankfully. He drove her crazy for a couple days! Anyhow, I am going to miss him when he goes to Ghana on July 22nd, with Kwasi! The house will be so eerily still without them. I miss them already just thinking about it. 🙁 But, it will be good for both of them. I just pray that Kwasi takes good care of him and doesn’t take an short-cuts with his care!

Kwabena is doing really well with reading! We read every night before bed, and I have started making sure he reads one page, and I read the next page. He surprises me at how much he can actually read on his own! I wonder if Kindergarten is going to be boring to him in terms of the work. Then again, it might be reassuring to him to know that it’s not super challenging, so that it doesn’t turn him off. But, then AGAIN, I want him to be challenged. We shall see what it’s like. But if it’s anything like the work book of stuff he’s working on now, he will get bored. I just hope there are no major behavioral problems! (Oh, yeah, the other day Miss Marilyn just had to bring up ADHD to me and “What would you do if they told you to get him evaluated? Don’t let them put him on medication!” UGH……. Yes, I’ve considered that he’s super hyper, but it doesn’t mean he has ADHD. We can only see how his school work takes off once he’s enrolled.

Well, I’m sure there is more to write. But it’s 11:47 p.m. now, and I want to sleep. But first, here’s a pic of the baby’s ultrasound pics at 13 weeks, 1 day! (although, according to the ultrasound I am 13 weeks, 2 days). But the due date is still set for Nov. 19th. Wow, just 2 days after Kwasi’s mom’s birthday, and 2 days before Kwasi’s birthday!

Well, better head to bed now!

‘Night-night!
