Whoever Said 2nd Labors Are Faster….

December 14, 2009 By Serena Leave a Comment

….LIED!

That’s not the case at all. Here we are on day 2….nearly 24 hours later, and still no baby. I felt for SURE that today would be the day….That I would wake up and have closer contractions and feel the need to rush off to the hospital. No way!

Today the contractions have continued to be about 10+ minutes apart. Occasionally they are getting closer, occasionally around 6 minutes apart once, and then further spreading out further again……But they ARE getting more uncomfortable. Riding in the car today was the worst! I remember that from when I was in labor with Kwabena–hitting each bump, feeling the car making my contractions worse, bracing myself for each “thump.”

This afternoon we went to Kwasi’s mom’s job and installed the old car seat. Kwabena’s outgrown the car seat, but since it’s the only extra we have, it’s the only option. Plus, he’ll only be using it in Kwasi’s mom’s car for a few minute ride to and from Miss Marilyn’s, at most. It’s better than NO car seat, right?

Kwasi’s mom was SO excited to show us off to all her coworkers and residents! She glowed. You can see she’s excitingly awaiting the baby’s arrival, even though she’s a pretty reserved person. A lot of people are excitedly waiting. Even Nana has called back again from Ghana, wanting an update. Sorry, there is none yet!

After we left Kwasi’s mom’s job, we stopped at Sym’s. How crazy is it that we were shopping while I am contracting? LOL. Well, he was looking for a shirt and pants, and me, a purse. Kwasi bought me a new purse that I had found, and a nice wallet, as a belated birthday gift. Afterward we stopped at Chiptole to pick up lunch. Then we came home and watched Confessions of a Shopaholic.

So here I sit now, wondering if it will be tonight, or early tomorrow morning? Either way, he’s coming!! Funny, because the contractions seem so much more intense this time around than they did with Kwabena, yet over a longer course of time. I’ve found that squatting and bouncing up and down is the best pain relief for me right now. I look pretty ridiculous, too. LOL! But hey–anything that works, right?!

Kwasi’s off to daycare to pick up Kwabena. We’re going to go for a walk when Kwabena and Kwasi get home, and then I’ll shower, and prepare for Ohene’s arrival! 🙂
