Word of the Day: “Poo-Poo”

January 29, 2009 By Serena Leave a Comment

Kwabena, for some reason, loves to talk about poo-poo.

He likes to joke about it……..(“I eat poo-poo for dinner!”)…….he likes to pretend that his poo-poo takes on fun shapes in the toilet……..(“I made a turtle!”)……….he just simply loves the idea of POOP. (That’s my boy!).

So tonight, when I asked him what his favorite food was, he pretended to really contemplate his answer, only to break out in a devilish grin and answer with a resounding, “Poo-poo!!!” (to which he and I burst out laughing–come on, it was pretty funny….)

Later that night while dressing him, I thought of a cool idea: Word of the Day.

The idea is that each day I would write a new word on the chalkboard in his room and try to use the word in a sentence. What a great way to build a new vocabulary and open up discussions to learn, right??

I told Kwabena he could pick the first word.

Any guesses what his first choice was? Well, let’s just say that on his chalkboard right now is……yep…..POO-POO.

So, of course, I came up with lots of funny sentences in which to use “poo-poo.” But I actually started to explain to him where poo-poo comes from! I told him about the process of eating food, and how we chew it and it travels down into our belly. Then I stood up and did a little crazy dance to show him how the stomach churns the food, and that the intestines takes the vitamins and minerals from the food, and then it pushes allllll the way down and comes out of his butt as poo-poo.

He thought it was pretty cool! And he could surprisingly describe the process to Kwasi afterwards. 🙂

Hmmm….I wonder what tomorrow’s Word of the Day will be?

“Pee-pee,”……perhaps?

🙂
