10 Miles

May 24, 2010 By Serena Leave a Comment

Yesterday I ran 10 miles! I’m training for a half marathon, so in the last couple weeks I’ve increased my distance from what I used to be able to run (3 miles), to 5.5 miles….then 7 miles….and yesterday, 10 miles!

I ran with Kwasi’s friend (and old coworker) Carlos. He’s got this nice park near his house. The park is located in Burke, VA. There’s a huge lake with a 6.5 mile nature trail around it. We ran that, and then back-tracked. It was pretty cool. And to say that I ran 10 miles is awesome! I was faster than Carlos, so I kept slowing at points, or stalling with a short jog to wait for him. Didn’t want to get too far ahead (for safety reasons, too).

We felt pretty good afterward. And I’m still feeling pretty good now. My knees are a little sore at times, particularly if I try to go down a set of stairs. But overall, I’m not too sore, and I feel no worse than when I had run 5.5 miles. SOOO…..I’m getting there! Working my way up to 13 miles!!

I was telling someone the other day that one of my life goals is to learn something new every year, like a new hobby or something. And last year I was really into knitting (which, unfortunately, I haven’t made as much time for as of lately since the weather is so warm and nice, and I’ve been doing a lot of reading). I was telling the person that I didn’t start anything new this year. But that’s not true. I’ve become a long-distance runner! 🙂

Here’s to starting something new and pushing yourself to new limits!
