May, already?!

May 4, 2011 By Serena Leave a Comment

It really can’t be May already….! This year is flying by! I think it’s true what they say that time passes more quickly as you age. There has to be some biological reason for this. Someone has tried to explain it; I just still don’t get it. Anyhow, here we are in early May. And I am nearly done my first trimester of pregnancy! As stupid as this sounds, I still can’t believe I am pregnant. Sometimes it seems like such an after-thought, because there are so many other things I am focused on, especially when chasing 2 little kids around, and having to tend to a house, and work, and…and…and….everything else! (not to mention, a husband, although Kwasi really isn’t too demanding, thank God!). But still, this poor little baby hasn’t even had an pictures taken of him yet–not even one “here’s a belly shot!!” shot. So I must be better about that.

I have now gained 6 lbs, and I can’t remember if that is on point with where I was with Kwabena and Ohene or not. I must pull out my blog posts from yonder years and find out. I’d done soooo bad with my eating when I first found out I was pregnant with this baby. I was finishing whole bags of cookies….eating donuts….snack cakes from the PX…..you name it. And when people mention something good, I get this idea in my head that I must have it. Yesterday Hakimah was talking about some yummy shake from Chick-Fil-A, and wouldn’t you know I had to stop and get me one. YUMMY, but definitely a “not too often” type of treat.

Although I know I shouldn’t technically be doing it, I am still following Weight Watchers, although not so meticulously. I had signed up a couple weeks ago after disappointingly finishing a bag of Peppridge Farm mint cookies. I was like, “This nonsense needs to stop!” I just needed to be accountable for my food choices, instead of thinking this time is a “free for all” or something.
Pregnant women only need a few extra calories per day (250-300), and that surely doesn’t mean shove as much junk food in your mouth that you can fit in one day!

So, my eating is on track, and I’ve gained 6 lbs. If I can keep weight gain to 1 lb per week for the next 29 weeks, I’ll be right at the 35 lbs mark, which is where I was with Ohene, I believe. So let’s see how well I can do!

People always ask me now if I want a girl or a boy. Honestly, if we found out this was a girl, I would be totally shocked. It is very unexpected. It would be a pleasant surprise. But a boy would be okay, too. I totally know boys! And it won’t be expensive raising a boy, since I have everything clothes-wise, as well as blankets, this, that, etc. But a girl….Oh man, you have to buy everything, or have some generous, lending friends!

Only time will tell. We’ll find out in July.

My next ultrasound will be in the next couple weeks–that scan to check to make sure the baby is genetically okay, etc. Hope all is well! 🙂
