So we recently received a contract on our condo. The offer was low, so we countered, and what we thought was a solid offer (although a bit sketchy with only $500 down with the contract), has now fallen though. The buyer, some military chick, wanted me to pay the full recordation and transfer tax. I said, “sure,” as long as the girl puts her portion that I will have paid onto the sales price. So, instead of $194,500, which we had agreed on, it would maybe be $196,500 or something like that. We haven’t heard anything back from her and her agent. Oh well…..In the meantime, an Asian couple that came to see our place yesterday really liked it, and they are writing an offer. I sooo hope that it’s a good offer. I am ready to SELL and move on!
We’ve been looking at some homes in the last week, and it’s getting pretty exciting! A bit frustrating, too. There is no “perfect” home. All the homes have their positives and negatives. The one we’re leaning towards is in Burtonsville: a huge lot, 3 bedrooms, lower level basement, and a HUGE master bedroom, with a nice walk-in closet that looks re-done. There’s a deck that spans the length of the house, and the master bedroom has a deck, too. It’s very private and has the appeal that it’s unique, and different. I love the space of the land; feels very homey. I could very well see us living there. I don’t like, however, that the 2nd level family room is a bit small and dark and the ceiling is low. I can touch it if I stand on my tip-toes. There also isn’t separate space for a craft room for me, or an office for Kwasi. Perhaps the basement can be sectioned off, or just shared space between the 2 purposes. The garage also doesn’t look big enough for a car– that can be sectioned off for a play area for the kids. It also could be built on and expanded, in the future, should we choose to. I just like the FEEL of the space, like it could be really private and special. Kwasi also really likes it. Now, as for the schools, it would put us in a better elementary school, but the middle and high school would be the same district in which we are now. I guess that’s okay, but not sure how I feel about it. I’m a little hesitant…..only because I am not sure how we would grow with the indoor space….
This other house we found and saw after viewing the above home didn’t have as great of curb appeal. The minute we got out and saw the lack of yard and being closer to other homes, I wanted to save our time and not even bother looking at the house. But we figured since we’d gone there, we may as well check it out. It ended up being more appealing than I thought it would! There was a huge basement that the people had made into a kid’s area. And there were 4 bedrooms upstairs, along with a sitting room off of the master bedroom that could be an office or sewing room! I love how open the upstairs was. Plenty of space. yet, the backyard was damn near non-existent. My mom brought up a good point– that eventually the kids will be too old to even want to USE any backyard space– that they will want to be inside, playing computer games and stuff, or socializing with their friends, etc. She pointed out to think about them as teens, and that is what I am doing. I don’t know if the above house will be enough space to grow with, inside, regardless of how great it feels outside.
This house below, however, feels like it could meet all of our space needs. I may be able to overlook the lack of yard and privacy. We could plant trees to grow and provide some privacy. I just have to convince Kwasi. He didn’t like that the house was two doors down from the police. He was like, “Hell no, I ain’t living next to Mr. Bo Bo!” Hmmm…..maybe I can convince him?? I really love the space and what we need is space. I want to be able to send the boys to the basement to pay and stay out of our hair when we need them to be out. They could run and jump down there, without bothering ANYONE. Hmmm….I’ll get Kwasi back to check it out and see if he’s game. I don’t think a police officer 2 doors down should be the reason why we don’t buy this house. It’s listed at $398,000. We could make out like a deal, I think……..
Anyhow, because the current potential buyer’s agent is acting like a difficult ass, Vanda allowed someone to come check out the house yesterday. They were arriving as we were leaving the building, and we played off (stupidly) like we weren’t the owners. Vanda ended up telling them we did that, to sort of save us from looking crazy later down the road, thankfully. Kwasi sort of squelched me into playing off that we weren’t the owners because he didn’t want them to “pre-judge” us; he wanted them to see the house for what it is, without attaching a face to it. SOOoo…..they must have liked it, because they are sending over a contract. Hoping it’s a good one! I’m ready to find our home! 🙂
