Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day

January 19, 2010 By Serena Leave a Comment

Today was nice. I am on maternity leave for another 6 weeks, so every day is a holiday for me. Kwasi, on the other hand, didn’t have to work. We went for a long walk around the block, and then stopped off at the playground. The weather we gorgeous (about 50-ish), but a bit breezy. It felt good to get exercise as a family: Kwabena on his scooter and playing on the playground, me and Kwasi jogging around the community center black top, and Ohene–sleeping, of course. 🙂

Today Kwasi taught Kwabena how to slide down the “firefighter’s pole” part of the playground equipment. Imagine my surprise when Kwabena actually was able to do it without falling! I realized that Moms’ role is to be the protector, and Dads’ role is to be the one to push the little birdie out of the nest in order to learn to fly (with, I’m sure, an occasional broken wing!!!). But yes, he learned to slide a good 8 feet or more down that pole, which freaked me out, but made me proud when he saw how proud of HIMSELF he was. Okay, I’ll give it to Kwasi–without Kwasi’s prompting, he wouldn’t have learned. Thanks, Daddy. 🙂

Too bad I dropped and broke our frickin’ digital camera last week, otherwise I would have had pics and video!

‘Night!
