This weekend I noticed Kwabena developing an infection in his eyes–pinkeye (i.e. conjuntivitis). (Why do his sicknesses always happen on weekends, when doctors offices are closed??? I swear there are soooo many businesses that are not customer-focused….!) I remember that breast milk, known for its antibacterial properties, has been known to cure (or at least help) pinkeye. So several times over the weekend, I put a few drops of breast milk in his eyes, and they seemed to get a little better (if you don’t believe me, check out this site: http://www.breastfeeding123.com/breast-milk-cures-pink-eye-conjunctivitis/)
Although his pink eye seemed to be improving (or rather, not getting worse), I still took him to the dr. this morning for prescription drops, since I was still noticing some yucky discharge in the inner corners of his eyes. I sort of wish I had just kept using breast milk several times a day and really see if it totally cured his eyes (and wouldn’t that be a story I would love to shout from the mountaintops, for all those people that have frowned upon extended breastfeeding and what purpose it serves–hmph!!).
But the other part of me wanted him to get better quicker (and hopefully the drops do this??) so that he could return to daycare tomorrow. Leaving him home is always an option since Kwasi works from home, but his best buddies are at daycare and is more fun. LOL
On Memorial Day we attempted to go to Great Falls, Virginia; to our dismay the park was closed because the parking lots were full capacity (who ever heard of closing an entrance to a state park?!). We found a parking space down the road, but would have to hike 2 miles to the falls. Great for 2 people–not so great with 2 people and a jogging stroller (with a sleeping toddler, mind you) that wheebled and whoobled over every protruding tree trunk root and mud puddle. We gave up and went home. 🙁 Oh, well, Great Falls will be there some other day…
Later in the day I took Kwabena to Petco, to check out the fishes, kitty cats, doggies, birdies, and rats. We had a great time! Then we went to Target for some groceries and to play in the toy aisle (I love how he listens when I tell him to put something back on the shelf after he’s done playing with it). Then we stopped by McDonald’s for ice cream.
I really didn’t want to get him a big cone. All I wanted was a kiddie cone for Kwabena, but they didn’t have a kiddie cone price, so we got a regular size. I poured the cone into a cup with a spoon, passed it to Kwabi who gleefully went to town on the ice cream, and then gasped when I realized he had killed the WHOLE CUP OF ICE CREAM in less than 5 minutes!!! He hadn’t even made a mess!
He’s definitely his mother’s son….
😉
Next time, he’s getting a kiddie size, regardless of the extra costs….

Kwasi and his brother, Kofi:

This is what Kwabi did when we asked him to “show us his muscles.” HAHAHAA Check out the 6-pack and the pimp chain.

Out for a walk:
